I feel Universal are in deep financial trouble and although I would agree that their relationship could make this happen. Universal will be priced out. I see it becoming a” get busy buying or get busy dieing” to misquote Shawshank redemption. On the the need for streamers and studios to buy a cinema chain for leverage. When American cinemas open, we might see some movement.
Universal will bid for AMC, I'm sure that is in the pipeline
So where will that leave Cine
I own a big stake in Disney and can appreciate how in the long term, buying a cinema chain would make great financial sense. Given the excellent future prospects of a recovery for Cineworld, they wouldn't be able to buy it for near the current share price.
Wasn't it the studios who lobbied for the removal of the restriction ? Why would they do that if they did not wish to bid ? And what better time than now for an opportunistic bid ?
Nice to see cine priortising health and safety for everyone compared to some retailers unethically boosting their share price by paying £3 per hour for labour.

Analysts already changing opinion, whoo hooo
Shares of UK cinema operator Cineworld Group Plc (LON: CINE) today surged 22.6% higher reversing a losing trend that has been in place for the past nine weeks, with the exception of a single week.
The stock rallied driven by a new wave of buyers at a key support level given that there were no major news events from the company to justify the rally. However, the company’s shares were trading near a major support zone that has been in place since 2007 when it went public.
The support level also represented its all-time lows presenting a low-risk high reward potential trade setup. No wonder buyers stepped in and pushed the company’s stock price higher.
Purchaseatthetop well done pal... give shorteguy some tips... mind I bet he's never invested.. only paid to post
Well said themuir01, everyday we go through a lot of rubbish from the derampers without any proof, but the moment I posted a potential genuine deal, look how tidd reacted, can't even believe how much he will regret not buying now.
tidd83 everything you have poisted so far has also been absolute rubbish...
An acquistion isn't that far fetched, netflix was considering buying regal https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/markets/article-8351307/Netflix-looked-bid-buy-2-4bn-Regal-Cinemas.html
Why on earth would you be shorting an already crippled market. Realist or not, that’s more akin to complete and utter madness
What an absolute load of rubbish.. why on earth would disney but a debt ladened cinema chain for 600% premium?
That is pure ramping and dangerous to ill informed potential investors.. and us realists are the bad guys?? Come on.
If Disney wanted to open cinemas they would.. they released Disney+ did they buy Netflix or any other streaming service? No - they do it themselves.

An interesing paragraph from this article which points to some background agreement of Cine and Disney. Now since this has been discussed before Disney could potentially buy Cine for £3 per share. Big gains coming soon. I am not selling my £3 worth of shares for 40p.
"Back in March, Cineworld was poised to screen episode one of Disney+ hit The Mandalorian, potentially helping it break out to scores of new fans. (Heck, even those who’d already seen it might have been lured by the chance to watch it in the cinema.) Tragically, the COVID-19 chaos struck before the screening took place, and it was cancelled. However, given that Cineworld got so close once, surely it can happen again once everything has calmed down?"
