Money in cinema is all about franchises. It is an actual risk to bring something new out.
To say all that is coming out is "sequal after sequal" means that cinemas will be making a fortune.
We have Dune, which will now become a franchise. But nobody would commit to that until they knew how much money it would make. Kind of tells us how cinema revenue works.
Your negative is actually a positive.
Never laughed so much at a post! You are joking right? Have you actually seen the films? Bond, Ghostbusters, Dune and the Matrix?
What a clown.
Alpha86, Spiderman 75 million views.
You talk about current trends, I don't think you keep up with them at all. You know nothing John Snow.

I'm under the age of 30 and will 100% be going to watch Top Gun
That was me just watching it on loop PW haha.
Spiderman, have you seen how many people have watched the trailer on YouTube, do your research lol.
Gostbusters: You haven't heard of Melissa Mccarthy, she's my favorite actor! Oh and my nephew who is under 15 can't wait to see Top Gun.
I just don't think you know anything.
Oh, you said everyone you knew under the age of 30 were going to the movies ....!
Avengers, Star Wars were reaching the end of their cycle, so people came out in droves to watch the climax of those stories. Avatar 2 will make money because the last one came out in 2009! If no one here thinks there is superhero fatigue then you obviously don't keep up with the current trends. Not sure what people are thinking here - must be deluded if you think kids will be lining up to go watch ghostbusters which has actors no one has heard of and anyone under the age of 30 will be going to watch top gun as they weren't even born when the original came out.
I agree in the sense that the movie line up may not be spectacular or in the volumes seen in the past but i believe most would generate a lot more than they would have if relased in say 2019 where there was so much choice.
I've been busy with my daughter recently so not been able to visit cinemas as much as i would like to but everytime I've been its been busy (accept this may be isolated to a small northern town but none the less it's been rammed). I went yday to watch dune and the cinema was absolutely rammed.
Everytime i get free time now on an evening id just pop in to watch whatever is on (because I've missed cinema) where as in the past i only attended to watch certain movies. There will be plenty of like minded people who will hit the cinema simply because they've missed it.
We also need to remember we will be hitting winter soon and america is still behind the UK in terms of recovery so poor weather coupled with this may just lift the numbers further!
Believe in cinema!!!
Moans that cinema is dying due to the amount of sequels being released in place of original movies, then references 2019 as a far superior year for movies and lists a number of sequels to back up the claim... Not getting the logic there!
Sorry Alpha…you’re way off the mark.
Most of the movies you’ve mentioned are going to make huge money.
The reasons why this share is where it is currently is nothing to do with the movie line up. The reasons have been discussed on this board numerous times - so I’m
Just assuming you’re new to here…
All the films you mention will make $$$$$.
Avatar 2 out Xmas 2022. Completely unoriginal.
But will make the kind of money that the streamers could only dream of.
The reason why piracy is rampant is because of those same streaming services you are referring to who are doing hybrid releases, which further reinforces the importance of cinema to the industry.
Netflix is popping champagne bottles and shouting from the rooftops that Squid Game will earn them nearly $900m. Cineworld brought in over £4bn ($5.50bn) in 2019. Netflix isn’t a danger to cineworld anytime soon.
Typo --- improve by late 2022/early 2023*
As a LTH - the movie line up for this winter and 2021 doesn't look all that exciting. We have sequel after sequel - ghostbusters, spiderman, matrix, the king's man, scream... all done to death nothing original. Next year we have Top Gun, Jurassic Park... are we back in the 80's? Then you have Netflix producing show after show and eventually one will land (Squid Game) and has taken off like crazy and it's all everyone is talking about. Forget lockdowns - they aren't coming back otherwise the politicians will have just destroyed their credibility with the vaccine push. But it's the movies that will pull the punters. In 2019 you had the climax of Marvel, Star Wars.. mixed in with Tarantino, Joker, Disney re-makes (Lion King, Aladdin). People talk about Bond - that's one movie. Also let's not even mention that piracy is still rampant, you can easily find HD copies of new movie releases within a week or two - even earlier if they decide to stream it simultaneously as the cinema release. Then you have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney, HBO all spending millions and millions producing new series. All these reasons are why this share price is going to linger in the 60s for a good while now, might even drop to the 50s. I only expect this to improve by late 2021/early 2022 but who knows what the landscape will be like by then?
