FWIW, I opened my position in BP a day or two after Deepwater Horizon. I was living in Birmingham AL at the the time and a week or two after that we drove down to the Gulf, to have a looksee. Couldn't find a drop of oil on any of the beaches, but the smell was off the scale. Been topping-up, now and then, ever since.
That's my plan too Zac, I have got away with it by the skin of my teeth but to be honest I am not that good at picking shares myself. Anything I have in SandS ISAs and trusts are doing well, clearly they are better at it than me. I only have BP and CRH now. Good luck
Zac, gl with your strategy, hindsight is the main teacher re what's best !! I strongly feel BP will certainly hit at least 500p by this year end so sticking with it and other oilies. A WT can hardly be increased by any more and most likely anti-WT Truss will be PM.
meoryou - although I'm still slightly down capital wise here it's more than offset by dividends received to date. My total return currently sits at +25%. That's -3% capital loss and +28% from dividends. So, all in all I'm ok with that. Over the years I've held some absolute stinkers!!
I intend to continue my strategy of moving away from individual shares. I'm down to my last 3. BP, Shell and L&G. BP will be the next to go. The green strategy is fine and I agree that I should have exposure to green energy, just not via an oil company transitioning! I've a position in Greencoat UK Wind investment trust which I'll continue to build.
I favour investment trusts for dividend income and investment funds (accumulation version) for capital growth.
Good Luck!
Entered in 2010 for circa £3.80, have added script, and will continue too, instead of cash since then, doubled down at circa £2 in 2020 now averaging at £3.10 , long term hold, even at this level it is as secure a share as any around and pays 6%.
I re-entered BP at 379p on the recent dip. Very happy with the way this is going at the moment.
Chatty
Being honest I never would have bought Bp it was only down to the fact that covid crisis decimated the price and gave me the opportunity.
Someone mentioned GKP in here the other day Now that’s a different story .That’s a if only .
Oh yes, whatever, it is better than 235. There was no prize but it was decided that The Grandchildren Will Have It. Good luck affm
Technically I have although it showing higher as bought 2 tranches one at 2.04 and one at 1.94 .
I then sold at 2 .65 and re bought at 2.55 and still hold them .
Does this count
What a lovely sentiment meouryou x
Rooting for you Jakers. It will come good. All the best
Thank you meoryou, I'm not planning to divest . Perhaps my grandchildren will reap a good reward. Jakers
Tinker much the same as you,I did sell a lot and bought back in low. You just have to follow your unstincts, all the very best
Jaker,Tinker ,Zac
All posters whose views I would always at the very least consider.
It’s strange now to think of a time when sp in the £4 s would have been just considered a good buying opportunity, but that’s what we would all have thought when you bought.
You could never have predicted a pandemic or a major change of strategy from the board.
Would say if you can leave a few shares when you do cash in they may finally pay off for you.
But whose to say you won’t do even better in something else.
Hope you can all get back to break even or more
Hi Tinker, that's a pity, you've obviously held this stock for some time. I wish you well with your investments
Jakers
Jakers,
I am nearly as bad at 479. The current plan is to reduce my holding if we get to 450 this quarter. I know the long term prospects are good but I can’t afford to wait and will have to take the hit.
Tinker
"Who has a holding priced at more than 466?"

£4.81
