That Talon web site page you posted makes the relative laterite/sulphide processing routes really clear. Thanks for posting.
The briquettes/powders referred to at the base of the page is what Tesla hopes to us in a dry process to produce cathodes which will mean missing out making nickel sulphate.

...should have mentioned Talon are also in British Virgin Islands !

Apart from that McKinsey post I just found another item which you might find useful.
To me it's more straightforward explanation of the process.

Glad you got your answer from TDT. So much of the battery science is beyond me.
Just scoured some of my bookmarks and maybe this explains more albeit a tad old.

cheers TDT thanks for that, much appreciated.
Sorry for all the mistakes in that post. Posting on an iPhone.

Your figure for the amount of nickel in out concentrate, from memory. Is correct. That would need to be refined to produce 99.8% pure nickel to qualify as class 1. The class 1 is then dissolved in sulphuric acid to produce nickel sulphide. The 22% figure you quote is the percentage nickel in the nickel sulphide solution.
There is no easy way to go from our concentrate to nickel sulphide although Tesla is currently looking to do away with a wet nickel sulphide process in their cathode manufacture.

Interesting Max
Just posted and didnt see it here on a refresh so if my reply shows up twice, sorry all.
I note the chemical composition of the reference prices:
Quality: Accepted by buyer for use in battery applications with chemical composition: Ni content, base 22.3% max, min 22%, cobalt 50ppm max
Does our stuff qualify?
I note from the TEO update our concentrate has about half that at 10.37%
Not sure if Im comparing like for like here
Very interesting Max. Less mystery about this sulfate premium.
I note that the chemical composition for these reference prices will be:
Quality: Accepted by buyer for use in battery applications with chemical composition: Ni content, base 22.3% max, min 22%, cobalt 50ppm max
@TDT: Is the chemical composition these reference prices refer to the same thing that we refer to in our concentrate? I'm trying to determine if our Nickel would fit the bill in order to trade off these new price baskets. As I understand it Nickel grade within a concentrate based upon the TEO update is 10.37%. Not sure if im comparing apples and apples here.
thanks,
CBS
Looks like the separation of EV nickel from the rest is finally to be addressed by LME.

Welcome to the nickel miners news for February. The biggest news the past month is probably the surging nickel prices and talk on a new key green metals supercycle that is only just beginning. President Biden also had an impact with his executive order "to review critical supply chains" particularly for semiconductors and electric vehicle metals and other critical materials to supply the US renewable energy boom.
