Treasury Shares

The Company announces that on 9 September 2008 it transferred a total of 31,071 shares to participants in its Sharesave schemes. The Company transferred 23,681 shares to participants in its 2005 Sharesave scheme at £2.24, it transferred 6,546 shares to participants in its 2006 Sharesave scheme at £3.88 and transferred 844 shares to participants in its 2007 scheme at £4.19. These shares were previously held as treasury shares.

Following the above transactions, the Company holds 457,435 ordinary shares in Treasury, and has 649,189,757 ordinary shares in issue (excluding Treasury shares).
