Sterling Energy Plc ("Sterling" or the "Company") (AIM: SEY), the independent oil and gas exploration and production company with interests in Africa and the Middle East, advises, in accordance with the Financial Services Authority's Disclosure and Transparency Rules, that the total number of ordinary shares of 40 pence of Sterling in issue at the date of this notice is 219,491,020.

The above figure may be used by shareholders as the denominator for the calculations by which they will determine if they are required to notify their interest in, or a change to their interest in Sterling, under the Disclosure and Transparency Rules.
