Appointment

At its meeting today after the Annual General Meeting, the Board of Directors of Saint-Gobain appointed Pierre-André de Chalendar Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Company. 

Born in April 1958, Mr. de Chalendar is a graduate of the ESSEC Business School and of the Ecole Nationale d'Administration (ENA), as well as a former senior civil servant (Inspecteur des Finances). He joined Compagnie de Saint-Gobain on November 1, 1989 as Vice-President, Corporate Planning. 

He held the positions of Director of Abrasives, Europe (1992-1996), Director of Abrasives, Worldwide (1996-2000) and General Delegate for the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland (2000-2002) before being appointed Senior Vice-President of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain in charge of the Building Distribution Sector in 2003. 

Appointed Chief Operating Officer of Compagnie de Saint-Gobain in May 2005 and elected to the Board in June 2006, he has been Chief Executive Officer since June 7, 2007. 

Mr. de Chalendar is also a director of Véolia Environnement.
