Pipeline Security Pilot Project - The Americas

Westminster Group Plc ('Westminster' or the 'Group'), the AIM listed supplier of system solutions and products to the security, defence, fire protection and safety markets worldwide, is pleased to announce it is to undertake a pilot pipeline security project for one of the world's largest government owned petrochemical companies within the Americas.
The petrochemical company concerned has over 20,000kms of unprotected pipeline within the Americas and has been in discussions with Westminster for several months regarding potential solutions to improve security of the pipeline network.

The pilot project will involve an integrated solution utilising the Westminster Acoustic Fibre Optic Pipeline Security System (AFOPSS) system to monitor a 20km section of pipeline. Following a successful pilot the petrochemical company intends to roll out protection to hundreds of kilometres of vulnerable pipeline.

Commenting on the project Peter Fowler, Chief Executive of Westminster Group, said:

"The Westminster AFOPSS solution is designed to protect gas, oil and other utility pipeline distribution networks and their remote facilities by providing an early warning of leaks, illegal taps, excavations and intruders which could pose a potential threat. The system is capable of pinpointing any incident to within a few metres regardless of distance of the pipeline and can be integrated with additional systems such as surveillance cameras and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
