OPERATING RESULTS FOR THE third QUARTER OF 2012 AND THE FIRST NINE MONTHS OF 2012
Open Joint Stock Company "TransContainer" ("TransContainer" or the "Company") (LSE: TRCN) announces its preliminary operating results for the third quarter of 2012 and for the first nine months of 2012.
Rail container transportation volumes
The Company's rail container transportation volumes for the third quarter of 2012 increased by 11.3% to 385 thousand twenty-foot equivalent units ("TEU") compared to 346 thousand TEU in the third quarter of 2011. This was mainly due to an increase in import transportation (by 20% YoY) and transit transportation (by 2.5 times). A reduction in export transportation was predominantly due to a drop in non-ferrous metal export sales due to weakness of the global metals market.

Terminal handling
Throughput of the Company's rail container terminal network in Russia in the third quarter of 2012 decreased by 12 thousand TEU, or by 3.1% to 381 thousand TEU, compared to 394 thousand TEU in the third quarter of 2011. For the nine months of 2012 container handling volumes in the Company's terminal network in Russia decreased by 106 thousand TEU, or 9.0%, to 1,071 thousand TEU.
This decrease resulted, among others, from a further decrease of medium-duty containers (MDC) handling, as the MDC fleet is phased out on the RZD network.
