OPERATING RESULTS FOR THE SECOND QUARTER OF 2012
Open Joint Stock Company "TransContainer" ("TransContainer" or the "Company") (LSE, MICEX-RTS: TRCN) announces its preliminary operating results for the second quarter of 2012 and for the six months to 30 June 2012.
Rail container transportation volumes
The Company's rail container transportation volumes for the second quarter of 2012 increased by 8.6% to 370 thousand twenty-foot equivalent units ("TEU") compared to 341 thousand TEU for the second quarter of 2011. This was mainly due to an increase in transit and import transportation volumes which grew 4.6 times and by 19.5% respectively. Domestic transportation volumes decreased by 4.5% due to the Company's route network optimisation as well as competition growth on a number of domestic routes.

The Company's rail container transportation volumes for the first six months of 2012 amounted to 717 thousand TEU, up 9.6% year on year. This growth was mainly driven by transit and export traffic.

The Company's revenue-generating container transportation* volumes grew by 12.6% to 284 thousand TEU in the second quarter of 2012 from 253 thousand TEU in the second quarter of 2011. For the first six months of 2012 revenue-generating container transportation volumes were up 12.5% to 544 thousand TEU compared to 483 thousand TEU for the same period of 2011.
TransContainer's estimated share of Russia's rail container transportation for the first six months of 2012 decreased to 50% compared with the full year 2011 estimate of 51%.

Terminal handling
Throughput of the Company's rail container terminal network in Russia for the second quarter of 2012 decreased by 14.6% to 355 thousand TEU compared to 416 thousand TEU for the same period of 2011. The decrease was mainly due to the 44.3% drop in handling of medium-duty containers (MDC) as a result of continuing MDC fleet disposal. MDC handling volumes in the second quarter of 2012 were 32 thousand TEU compared to 57 thousand TEU in 2Q 2011.
For the first six months of 2012, throughput of the Company's rail container terminal network in Russia amounted to 690 thousand TEU, a decrease of 12% year on year. MDC handling volume dropped 43% YoY for the same period.

Operational Efficiency
In the second quarter of 2012, the flatcar empty runs continued to decrease to reach the 7.7% level. Container empty run ratio, further to the 1Q 2012 hike to 39.3%, eased to 35.6%, close to the 2011 level.
The flatcar and container turnover figures in the first half of 2012 remained approximately flat as compared to relevant metrics for 2011.
