19 September 2012 AIM: TLY Totally Plc("Totally", "the Company" or "the Group") Totally announces the Go Live of the national NHS Patient Decision Aids
As part of the national NHS Right Care Shared Decision Making Programme, which is funded by the Department of Health QIPP Programme, Totally has developed the SANDY system, which is now live and operational.
The system is built on the NHS N3 secure server and comprises an interactive website that links to a database that can store patient data. The system also services the remote health coaching network, so that when the health coaches, who are fully qualified nurses, speak to patients, their notes can be stored in the secure database. This system also contains the functionality to be linked up to GP and secondary care databases, which means it can also act as a way to monitor long term conditions. An outline of the system was featured in the Department of Health's recently published Information Strategy.
The live system currently hosts five patient decision aids (PDAs), with a further 32 to be hosted by the end of the contract period. The current aids cover the following disease areas:

Totally has devised and designed these Patient Decision Aids by assembling distinguished medical advisory groups in each disease area that include national clinical leaders and representatives from the third sector and patient groups. Dr Donal O'Donoghue, the National Clinical Director for Kidney Services, has acted as Totally's Clinical Advisor across the project. Dr Hilary Bekker, an expert in Decision Sciences at Leeds University, has also acted as an advisor for Totally across the Patient Decision Aid project, ensuring the Patient Decision Aid content as well as design and presentation of the site is non-biasing and adheres to Shared Decision Making principles.
The Totally team have worked closely with BMJ Evidence, part of the BMJ Group, who have developed the evidenced-based editorial content of the Patient Decision Aids.
A further two Decision Aids, Osteoarthritis of the Hip and Osteoarthritis of the Knee, are due to go live by the end of September.
Commenting on the launch of the system, Dr Donal O'Donoghue said, "Health and healthcare is about people and choices. Dr Steven Laitner, a practicing GP and Clinical Lead for the national Shared Decision Making Programme, added: "All too often there is a paternalistic approach to healthcare, with well-meaning clinicians deciding what is best for their patients. Evidence suggests that patients don't always know that they have a choice, but when they are involved in decisions about their treatment, their experience, satisfaction and outcomes improve. So we are enormously proud to be launching these new and vital tools for patients, enabling them to share the decision making process with their clinicians. These Patient Decision Aids help translate the NHS commitment of `no decision about me, without me' and the NHS Mandate into reality".

About the Shared Decision making programme
The national NHS Right Care Shared Decision Making Programme is funded by the Department of Health's QIPP Programme.
QIPP - Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention - is a large scale transformational programme for the NHS, involving all NHS staff, clinicians, patients and the voluntary sector. The Right Care programme is focussed on increasing quality and value for patients and for commissioners.
The Programme's role includes planning and overseeing the delivery of a national programme of work which will promote the spread and embedding of Shared Decision Making within the NHS.

About Totally Health
Clare Thompson is the CEO of Totally Plc and Totally Health and has over 20 years' experience in leading health technology projects and empowering patients. Most recently she was the Managing Director of Bupa Health Dialog and prior to that Clare was part of a team that successfully bid and pitched for NHS Choices programme. She oversaw a successful transition from the bid to implementation and became the Director of Innovation, Strategy and Engagement for the site following the transition process.
Wendy Lawrence is Managing Director of Totally Health and previously worked for Bupa Health Dialog, leading the Client Delivery Team on a range of projects, from complex FESC deliveries through to individual PCT specific contracts across the UK. Wendy is a registered Nurse with over 25 years of experience in both public and private practice areas. Working primarily in Intensive Care and Surgical Directorates. Wendy has led several programmes delivering Shared Decision Making or Long Term Condition Management through Health Coaching, working with both private and NHS patients.
