Investment in Unilever
Trian Investors Management, LLC (the "Investment Manager") recently informed the Company's Board of Directors that Trian Investors 1, L.P. (the "Investment Partnership"), together with other funds managed by Trian Fund Management, L.P. ("Trian"), hold interests in approximately 37.4 million ordinary shares of Unilever plc ("Unilever") (constituting approximately 1.5%* of Unilever's share capital). The Company, through the Investment Partnership, holds 1.06 million ordinary shares, which it acquired in April 2022 for $50 million (£37.7 million).
Earlier today, Unilever announced the appointment of Nelson Peltz as a Non-Executive Director of the company and a member of its Compensation Committee. It is expected that the appointments will be effective from 20 July 2022, subject to receipt of any required regulatory approvals. Nelson Peltz is the Chief Executive Officer and a Founding Partner of Trian, the Investment Manager's parent.
The Investment Manager has informed the Company's Board that it believes Unilever has significant potential and Trian looks forward to working collaboratively with Unilever's management and board to help drive the company's strategy, operations, sustainability, and shareholder value for the benefit of all stakeholders. The Company expects to share more information regarding its investment in Unilever at an appropriate time in the future.
