13 Jun 2005 07:00

TEG Environmental Plc13 June 2005 For Release 7:00am 13 June 2005 TEG ENVIRONMENTAL PLC: State Veterinary Service Grants Positive Release Status Impacts Revenue Generation, Opens Larger New Markets TEG Environmental Plc ("TEG" or "the Company"), the leading edge greentechnology company which converts organic wastes into natural organicfertilizer, is pleased to announce that it has been granted positive releasestatus by the State Veterinary Service. This permits it to process Category IIIanimal by-products ("ABP") and paves the way for securing full ABP validation. This approval, at the Company's original composting plant at Sherdley Farm, nearPreston, represents the highest possible classification in the organic wastetreatment market. It allows TEG to open Sherdley Farm to the highest value organic waste streamand generate revenue, as well as opening up larger markets for the company.Sherdley Farm already has planning permission for expansion and a full wastemanagement license. Commenting, Michael Fishwick, Chief Executive of TEG Environmental, said:"Achieving positive release status from the State Veterinary Service is themajor hurdle we needed to overcome to achieve full certification for ourcomposting plants. To date, Sherdley Farm has provided a strong reference forsales and given TEG the ability to develop its product. We are now able tosecure disposal contracts for the plant and turn it into a revenue generator. This development also opens up new high volume markets for TEG from the bigwaste management companies, supermarkets and multinational food processors, whoall seek approved plants." TEG expects to receive full ABP approval in three months, which will make it oneof a handful of companies in the organic waste treatment market to haveaccreditation for its technology. So far, only three other companies haveachieved full approval to process category III ABP in the UK. Britain introduced ABP Regulations ("ABPR") after the BSE and Foot & Mouthoutbreaks, with EU legislation following in May 2003. ABPR prevents the use ofanimal by-products from being fed to other animals or disposed of via landfill. The 1.6 million tonnes of animal by-products the UK generates each year includeproducts previously applied untreated to land, such as abattoir waste and, from31 December 2005, former foodstuffs that contain or have been in contact withmeat products, catering waste and supermarket food waste. The ABP Regulations specify composting, incineration, rendering and anaerobicdigestion as the only approved disposal methods achievable in the UK and the EU.The impact of the ABP Regulations is that approximately 1.6 million tonnes willsoon need treatment in the industry, creating a larger market for compostingprovided by TEG's in vessel composting plants.
