SciSys wins new contract with the German Military Service for upgrade of ground tracking station.
SciSys plc (AIM: SSY), the specialist supplier of bespoke software systems, IT based solutions and support services is pleased to announce that, through its German subsidiary VCS AG, it has been awarded a new contract with AGeoBW, the German Military Geo-information Service.
AGeoBW is responsible for the development and operation of facilities for the provision of geo-information to meet the requirements of Government Services. This includes the Meteorology Group at the German Weather Service, which is responsible for all meteorological data, products and services that are required by the various military services.
The project involves the upgrade of the complete satellite ground station located in Traben-Trarbach, Germany. The ground station includes a polar satellite receiving system for reception of data from L- and X-band satellites as well as a geo-stationary system for reception of data from the EUMETCast mission. EUMETCast is EUMETSAT's Broadcast System for Environmental Data. It is a multi-service dissemination system based on standard Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) technology.
The system will be developed by the SciSys Space Division in Germany. It comprises circa 20 workstations and servers in a redundant configuration operating the VCS 2met! applications software.
The contract includes provision of the software, the hardware platform and all related services and is complemented by a follow-on maintenance contract that will come into force upon completion of the on-site acceptance test. This will be for a four year period and will be of similar value to the initial supply contract. In total it is anticipated that the value of the contract will be close to €1m.
