SciSys wins new contract with the RNLI to supply electronic architecture

SciSys plc (AIM: SSY), the specialist supplier of bespoke software systems, IT based solutions and support services is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a new contract with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) initially to supply the electronic architecture for the new Fast Carriage Boat class of lifeboats, FCB2, with the likelihood of further follow on work as the rollout of the fleet takes place. It is anticipated that the initial value of the contract will be in excess of £1m.

FCB2 is the replacement for the current Mersey class all weather lifeboat, with upwards of 30 vessels planned to be built over the next 10 years. SciSys will supply the "Systems and Information Management System" or SIMS, that provides the charity's volunteer crews with an integrated view on all boat systems including charting and RADAR. The development phase for the prototype boat is expected to last for approximately 13 months with the opportunity to support the SIMS for the duration of the lifetime of the FCB2 fleet.

Chairman Mike Love commented "SciSys is privileged and excited to open our working relationship with the RNLI on such a key contract. For SciSys, it further proves our ability to transfer technology, intellectual property and skills between business domains. It strengthens our position in the field of electronic architecture, where there is significant future opportunity. This contract is yet another good example of the increasing momentum at SciSys during 2009, and reinforces the Board's current confidence in the Company's expected 2009 financial performance."

Notes to Editors:

The RNLI charity saves lives at sea. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates over 230 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and has more than 100 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK. The RNLI is independent of Coastguard and government and depends on voluntary donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. Since the RNLI was founded in 1824 its lifeboat crews and lifeguards have saved over 138,000 lives.
