Sanctuary Group PLC23 February 2007 The Sanctuary Group PLC23 February 2007 THE SANCTUARY GROUP PLC (the "Company") Notification of Major Interests in Shares The Company announces that it received notification on 23 February 2007 from The Goldman Sachs Group Inc that it had increased its interest in ordinary shares of 2p each in the Company ("Shares") from 33,937,742 Shares (carrying 33,937,742 voting rights) to 35,673,412 Shares (carrying 35,673,412 voting rights) representing approximately 16.06% of the issued Ordinary Share Capital of the Company (of which 35,259,956 voting rights result from a direct holding and 413,456 voting rights result from an indirect holding). The chain of controlled undertakings through which the voting rights over the Shares are effectively held is as follows: The interest in 35,259,956 Ordinary Shares arose from a beneficial interest heldby Goldman Sachs International, a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of GS Inc. These shares are, or will be, registered at CREST in account CREPTEMP and represent 15.87 per cent.of the total issued share capital of the Company. The interest in 413,456 Ordinary Shares arose from an interest held by Goldman, Sachs & Co., a wholly-owned direct subsidiary of GS Inc, acting as custodian forits customers. These Ordinary Shares are, or will be, registered in the name of Goldman Sachs Securities (Nominees), Limited and represent 0.19 per cent. of thetotal issued share capital of the Company.
