RM to provide Glow - Scotland's national education intranet - for a further two years

RM has been awarded a £10m, two-year extension to its contract to provide Glow, Scotland's innovative national education intranet, and will now deliver the service until September 2012. RM was originally awarded a £37.5m, five-year contract to develop and deliver Glow in September 2005.

As well as continuing to provide the Glow service for learners and teachers across Scotland, RM will also deliver improvements to the service designed to create an enriched user experience. These improvements have come as a direct result of comments received by the National Glow Team through online discussion forums and help groups. 

Terry Sweeney, Chief Executive of RM, said:

"Glow remains the only national educational intranet in the world and has been internationally recognised by winning the 2009 IMS Learning Impact Award. Now that all 32 local authorities are signed up to Glow the young people of Scotland have a great opportunity to improve their life chances through access to the very best educational resources available online." 

Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, Fiona Hyslop, said:

"The Glow intranet allows schools across Scotland to plan, create, publish and interact - promoting individualised learning and widening support. As a tool to support Curriculum for Excellence it makes an invaluable contribution. These enhancements will allow us to use 21st century technology to support 21st century learning and teaching."
