 NTOG Joins Industry Study - Regional Woodford Shale Stratigraphy, Oklahoma

Nostra Terra, the AIM quoted oil and gas producer with projects in the USA, is pleased to announce that it has joined nine other companies in sponsoring a study of the Woodford Shale under the direction of Dr. Roger Slatt and the University of Oklahoma ("OU"). The consortium will conduct a regional study of the Woodford Shale in the Anadarko-Arkoma-Ardmore Basins and Central Platform of Oklahoma, a region known for prolific gas production. The primary goal will be to better understand the regional sequence stratigraphy, and from that, characterisation at the wellbore, log and sample scales, including electron microscopy for pore analysis. The project is expected to span approximately 18 months.

"The Woodford Shale of Oklahoma is commonly only associated with gas production among the regional "resource plays" of the United States. It is not widely known that some portions of the play areas can be rich in liquids and very profitable. The geological and petrophysical factors that may lead to predicting where and how these liquids can be targeted and extracted are not yet well-understood. We are delighted to join with Dr. Slatt, the University of Oklahoma and the consortium with the objective of better understanding this complex hydrocarbon system".

Dr. Roger Slatt

Dr. Roger M. Slatt is the Gungoll Family Chair Professor in Petroleum Geology and Geophysics at University of Oklahoma and Director of the Institute of Reservoir Characterization in the Sarkeys Energy Center at OU. He was Director of the School of Geology and Geophysics and Eberly Family Chair Professor at University of Oklahoma from 2000-2006, and the Gungoll Chair Professor of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics in 2006-07. He formerly was Head of the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering at Colorado School of Mines (1992-2000) and Director of the Rocky Mountain Region Petroleum Technology Transfer Council (1995-2000). He has published more than 100 articles and abstracts and is author/co-author/editor of 6 books on petroleum geology, reservoir geology, sequence stratigraphy, clastic depositional systems and/or geology of shale. He teaches an online course on reservoir characterization for AAPG, has been an AAPG and SPE Distinguished Lecturer, and presents courses internationally for industry organizations, in addition to OU. He is the recipient of the AAPG Distinguished Service Award, the Esso Australia Distinguished Lecturer in Petroleum Geology, AAPG Honorary Membership, AAPG Grover Murray Distinguished Educator Award, Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) Special Commendation Award, and most recently the 2012 Jules Braunstein Memorial Award for co-authoring a poster with colleague Younane Abousleiman on 'Merging sequence stratigraphy and geomechanics for unconventional gas shales". He has graduated more than 50 M.S. and Ph.D. students while at OU.
