Nationwide Building Society appoints Chris Rhodes as Chief Financial Officer

Nationwide Building Society is pleased to announce that Chris Rhodes will succeed Mark Rennison as Chief Financial Officer. He is expected to take up his duties in early Autumn 2019.

Chris has served on the Board of Nationwide Building Society, currently as Executive Director Product and Propositions, since April 2009.

Commenting on the appointment, Nationwide's Chairman David Roberts said: "I am delighted that Chris Rhodes has agreed to take on the role as Chief Financial Officer, succeeding Mark Rennison. Chris has had a 30 year career in financial services and is an experienced finance director. He has deep understanding of the Society and the mutual business model and through his leadership of product and propositions at Nationwide has placed significant focus on supporting the long term financial stability of the Society and acting in the best interests of our members. Chris commences his role at an exciting time as the Society has embarked upon a substantial investment in technology and he is deeply committed to ensuring the Society continues to invest for the future on behalf of its members."

Chris Rhodes said: "I am delighted to have been asked to become Chief Financial Officer of Nationwide Building Society. I intend to ensure Nationwide continues to be a safe home for our members' money whilst investing in products and services which fulfil the needs of our members over the long term. I look forward to building on the work of Mark Rennison and his team."

Chris's appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

Remuneration:

It is expected that the remuneration package of Chris Rhodes will be comparable with that of Mark Rennison, the retiring Chief Financial Officer.

Chris Rhodes biography

Chris is a chartered accountant who has spent 30 years in financial services. He spent 20 years at Alliance and Leicester including as Group Finance Director and Acting CEO. He joined Nationwide Building Society in April 2009 and has led Retail and Product and Propositions in his 10 years.

Chris has significant experience with industry trade bodies including UK Finance and working closely with government and regulators. He is a former Board Director of Visa Europe and a founding Trustee of the charity National Numeracy.

Chris is married with two grown up daughters and he is a keen cyclist.
