MELROSE RESOURCES PLC
USAΒ ReservesΒ IncreaseΒ and OperationsΒ UpdateΒ
Melrose Resources plcΒ (LSE: MRS) ("Melrose"Β or the "Company")Β providesΒ the followingΒ informationΒ onΒ itsΒ reserves andΒ operations in theΒ USA.Β Β
The results have now been obtained from a technical evaluation ofΒ Melrose's reserves in theΒ PermianΒ BasinΒ in westΒ TexasΒ and easternΒ New Mexico. The evaluation, which has been confirmed by independent consultants,Β concludes thatΒ Melrose's net proved oil reserves in these properties will increase by 2.5 MMbbls,Β an increase of approximately 22%Β of net provedΒ oilΒ reservesΒ in theΒ USAΒ at the beginning of the year of 11.3Β MMbbls. Also, in the light of the ongoing and planned activity on the leases, the CompanyΒ willΒ book net probable oil reserves ofΒ 5.2Β MMbbls. Further upside exists in possible reserves which are estimated at 14.8Β MMbblsΒ and which could be targeted by furtherΒ infill drilling to downspaceΒ two of the main field areas to 10 acres. In addition, two of the field areas are also viewed as being suitable, in due course, for tertiary recovery projects using COΒ² injection.
Plans areΒ currentlyΒ being finalised for the drilling of two exploration wells in Harris County, Texas. The Nunan No.1 well, which will offset a well previously drilled onΒ Melrose's acreage,Β hasΒ fourΒ principal targets including aΒ shallowΒ oilΒ prospectΒ withΒ reserves ofΒ 3Β MMbbls and an estimated chance of success ofΒ 50%.Β ThreeΒ deeper gas targetsΒ in the wellΒ have estimated reserves ofΒ 25 Bcf,Β 12 Bcf andΒ 62Β Bcf with estimated chances of success ofΒ 25%,Β 16% and 19%, respectively.Β It is expected that theΒ NunanΒ well will spud inΒ late SeptemberΒ and it will be followed by theΒ Ramsey No.1 exploration well. This willΒ twin a wellΒ previouslyΒ drilledΒ on the acreageΒ in which 58 ft of pay was identified by petrophysical analysis but which was not tested due to technical problems.Β Target reserves in the Ramsey No.1 are estimated at 26 Bcf and the chance of success is estimated at 50%.Β
Also inΒ HarrisΒ County, the successful Holmes No.4 appraisal wellΒ which was drilled in JuneΒ 2008 and discovered 10.2 Bcf of reservesΒ has been completed. The wellΒ is being tied into to the local gas sales line and first production is expected by mid-August.Β
Commenting on this,Β David Thomas,Β ChiefΒ Executive,Β said:Β
"The review of ourΒ PermianΒ BasinΒ properties has confirmed our view that these are veryΒ solidΒ assets which provideΒ MelroseΒ with aΒ goodΒ platform forΒ reserves andΒ production growth over the next few years.Β We are alsoΒ excited by the planned exploration wells in East TexasΒ which,Β in view of theΒ concession terms and the gas price environment in theΒ USA, are potentially highlyΒ material wells forΒ the Company."Β Β
