Mears Group PLC
("Mears Group"Β or "the Company")
AGM Statement
At theΒ Company's Annual General Meeting to be held at 12.00 p.m. today, BobΒ Holt, Chairman, will issue the following statement:Β
We are pleased to report a satisfactory performance for the first four months ofΒ 2008Β and are confident thatΒ the CompanyΒ will again produce results to meetΒ the Board'sΒ expectations.
Social HousingΒ division
When we announcedΒ record results in March of this year,Β we highlighted that aΒ return to bidding on a highly selective basis had generated significant success during theΒ six months to MarchΒ 2008. We have continuedΒ this momentum and we haveΒ alreadyΒ announced Β£57m of Social Housing contract awardsΒ since that time.
We areΒ pleasedΒ today to be able to announceΒ further social housingΒ contract winsΒ amounting to in excess of Β£80mΒ as follows:
Cross Key HomesΒ
We have been awarded a 10-year partnership with Cross Keys Homes to provide responsive repairs and voids services. The contract is valuedΒ at Β£41mΒ for the 10-year period. This award widens the range of services we provide to Cross Keys Homes, adding to the partnering arrangements we hold with them for Decent Homes, Gas Servicing and Cyclical Decorations.
BlackpoolΒ
Mears has been awarded a Β£20mΒ Decent Homes partnership with Blackpool Coastal Housing, valued at Β£5mΒ per annum for the next 4 years.
Liverpool Mutual Homes
We have been awarded preferred supplier status to deliver Decent Homes works to Liverpool Mutual Homes. Mears is one of eight partners and will share in a spend valued at Β£160mΒ overΒ the next 4 years.Β
Β
Our order book stands at Β£1.4Β billion andΒ provides full visibility for 2008 and strong visibility for 2009 and beyond.Β Β We continue to place great emphasis on winning good quality contracts that can provide clear and sustainable margins.
Β
The size of the social housing bid pipeline for contract tenders remainsΒ extremely healthy and we continue to target customers who share our view of long term partnering arrangements.
CareΒ division
Β
We are pleasedΒ to announceΒ fiveΒ new contract wins byΒ ourΒ care divisionΒ amounting toΒ overΒ 6,500Β hours per weekΒ orΒ overΒ Β£4mΒ of annualised revenues.Β Careforce continues to build a presence across a growing geographical area and is well placed to take a leading position in the consolidation of the domiciliary care market. Investment in infrastructure and people continuesΒ as we grow the business.
Β
The 5 new contract wins are as follows:
BlackburnΒ withΒ DarwenΒ
AΒ preferred supplier status for one of three localities withinΒ BlackburnΒ with Darwen Borough Council. TheΒ contract to supply homecare toΒ BlackburnΒ withΒ Darwen Borough Council commencesΒ in July 2008Β and runsΒ until March 2011 withΒ a possible extension for a further 2 years.Β The expected volumeΒ under this contractΒ will beΒ 1,000Β hours per week.Β Β It is understood that the number of providers in the area has been reduced from 13 to 9 as a result of thisΒ recontracting process.
ManchesterΒ City Council
AΒ locality basedΒ contract to supplyΒ home care toΒ Manchester City CouncilΒ commencingΒ onΒ 23Β JuneΒ 2008Β for an initial term ending on 31 March 2011, with a possible extension for a further 2 years thereafter. The expected volume under this contractΒ will grow toΒ 2,250 hours per week.Β Given such volume, this contract represents the largest contract win in a new locationΒ achieved by Careforce since it was acquired by Mears and together with recent wins in Trafford, Wigan andΒ BlackburnΒ with DarwenΒ strengthens the Company's presence in the North WestΒ of England.Β
Southend-on-SeaΒ
A contract to supply homecare to Southend Borough Council will commence 1 October 2008 and run for an initial period of 3 years with a possible extension for a further 2 years. NeathΒ Port TalbotΒ
A block contract to supplyΒ a minimum ofΒ 750Β hours per weekΒ ofΒ home care to Neath Port TalbotΒ CountyΒ Borough Council for an initial one year contract with a possible extension for a furtherΒ period ofΒ 2 years. Commencing in July 2008, this award representsΒ the Care division's first contract win inΒ WalesΒ andΒ will provide a valuable springboard to pursue other opportunitiesΒ inΒ theΒ region.
Move to the Official List
On 22 May,Β Mears announced that it intends to apply for admission of its ordinary share capital to the Official List of the UK Listing Authority and to trading on the London Stock Exchange's market for listed securities.
