Meanwhile, event drivenmanagers profited from distressed strategies and merger activity as China'sCNOOC and US based Chevron both made bids for Unocal, while Johnson & Johnsonagreed to buy Guidant, a medical device-maker. In addition the multi-strategystyle captured gains from convertible valuations which rebounded from theirearlier monthly lows.
