CHINESE ORDER FOR Axis-3D® BAGGAGE SCREENING SYSTEMS 

The Board of Image Scan, specialists in the field of real-time 3D and 2D x-ray imaging for the 'Homeland Security' and 'Industrial Inspection' markets, is pleased to announce that it has received confirmation of the £630,000 order for Axis-3D® baggage screening systems into China.

Following use of the Axis-3D® system to provide heightened security measures for key locations at the Beijing Olympics and an extensive trial of the Company's latest 3D baggage screening system, Shanghai Unitech have confirmed their order originally placed in March 2008 but dependent on the successful outcome of the trial. 

The relevance of using 3D x-ray technology was highlighted recently when a replica bomb was smuggled past security staff in hand luggage during a safety inspection at Gatwick, Britain's second busiest airport. Norman Shanks, a former head of security at BAA, said "we really need to be looking at a new generation of x-rays to help check for explosive devices".

A long term trial by the Transport & Security Administration at a major US airport demonstrated that 3D baggage scanners can significantly increase the probability of detecting threat items.

The Axis-3D® system enables the operator to view the contents of the baggage in the same stereoscopic way as our eyes see the real world, providing a powerful tool in assessing a threat more easily. As a result the chances of missing a gun, bomb or other threat are significantly reduced. The images produced by Axis-3D® offer cutting-edge clarity, which is essential if screeners are to spot and identify the smaller individual component parts of a bomb, such as timers, wires and detonators.
