HAYDALE GRAPHENE INDUSTRIES PLC - Collaboration Agreement

HAYDALE GRAPHENE INDUSTRIES PLC - Collaboration Agreement

PR Newswire

London, July 11

11 July 2014 Haydale Graphene Industries plc ("Haydale" or the "Company") Announces Collaboration Agreement with Swansea University's Welsh Centre for Printing and Coatings ("WCPC") Haydale Graphene Industries plc (AIM:HAYD), the Company focused on enablingtechnology for the commercialisation of graphene, is pleased to announce thatit has signed a research and collaboration agreement with the WCPC, one of theworld's leading R&D centres for printing and coating processes, based atSwansea University. The WCPC will develop and refine commercial ink formulations supplied byHaydale to meet the growing interest in graphene based inks and coatings. Thecollaboration is also investigating the exploitation of functionalised grapheneand other carbon nano-materials developed by Haydale in areas such astransparent conductive films, barrier coatings and 3D printing. Professor Tim Claypole, College of Engineering Swansea University and Directorof WCPC, will lead the WCPC programme. Commenting, Haydale Chief Executive, Ray Gibbs said: "Working with the WCPC is a key element of our focus on inks and coatings andis a great fit for us. Having access to a wide range of nano materials and thenusing our unique functionalisation process means we can provide the mostappropriate material for the WCPC to use. In turn, the resources and capabilityat the WCPC mean we can move quickly on product development. We have alreadysuccessfully produced a consistent quality conductive ink that we are nowstarting to market. This collaboration is all about taking the next steptowards the commercial uptake of our inks by demonstrating that we cansuccessfully functionalise the right material to meet specific manufacturingneeds." Prof Tim Claypole, founder and director of the WCPC, Swansea University, added"this is a good example of where the expertise and facilities of the WCPC,which have been developed with the support of the Welsh Government AcademicExpertise for Business (A4B) programme, are being used to help a help a leadingedge Welsh company grow its highly innovative product portfolio." "A crucial part of this project is the development of standard operatingprocedures for the manufacturing process that will ensure a highly consistent, quality product. These will form the basis for any future scale up tocommercial production. This understanding of the manufacturing tolerances forcritical parameters will also be fed into International Standards." "The WCPC will further benefit from this project as it will have an improvedunderstanding of the operating and quality assurance procedures. This it willbe able to apply to the research into the creation of inks and coatings basedon other novel materials". - ends - For further information please contact: Haydale Graphene Industries plc 01269 842 946 John Knowles, Chairman Ray Gibbs, Chief Executive Officer Cairn Financial Advisers LLP (Nomad) 0207 148 7900 Tony Rawlinson Paul Trendell Cantor Fitzgerald Europe (Joint Broker) 020 7894 7000 David Foreman Paul Jewell Hume Capital Securities plc (Joint Broker) 020 3693 1470 Guy Peters David Lawman Hermes Financial PR Trevor Phillips 07889 153 628 Chris Steele 07979 604 687 About Haydale Haydale has developed a patent pending proprietary scalable plasma process tofunctionalise graphene and other nanomaterials. This enabling technology canprovide Haydale with a rapid and highly cost efficient method of supplyingtailored solutions to enhance applications for both raw material suppliers andproduct manufacturers. Functionalisation is carried out through a low pressure plasma process thattreats both organic mined fine powder and other synthetically producednanomaterial powders producing high quality few layered graphenes and graphenenano platelets. The process can functionalise with a range of chemical groups, where the amount of chemicals can be tailored to the customer needs. Gooddispersion improves the properties and performance of the host material andensures it delivers as specified. The Haydale plasma process does not use wet chemistry, neither does it damagethe material being processed, rather it can clean up impurities inherent in theraw material. The technology is a low energy user and most importantlyenvironmentally friendly. The Haydale method is an enabling technology whereworking with a raw material producer can add value to the base product andtailor the outputs to meet the target applications of the end user. Haydale, based in South Wales, housed in a purpose built facility forprocessing and handling nanomaterials with a laboratory facility, isfacilitating the application of graphenes and other nanomaterials in fieldssuch as inks, sensors, energy storage, photovoltaics, composites, paints andcoatings. www.haydale.com About The Welsh Centre for Printing and Coating: The WCPC, founded in 1995, is a world leader in research and development ofprinting and coating processes, with extensive expertise in screen, flexographic, lithographic, rotogravure, digital and pad printing. The WCPCfacility is based in Swansea Wales and operates out of Swansea University. Thespecialist laboratories are fully equipped for sample analysis and materialcharacterisation. In addition there are printing services provided by a fourstation roll to roll flexographic press and a two station sheet fedlithographic press, enabling WCPC to produce and manufacture both packagingproducts and research prototypes on site. The multi-disciplinary staff is made up of PhD and post-doctoral candidates inindustrial and academic fields, working alongside support staff. WCPC pridesitself on its willingness to invest in new technology and its commitment toremaining at the forefront of the printing and coating industry. Working out ofSwansea University it offers research projects which utilise the expertise ofacademic and industrial knowledge to develop industrial solutions and testprototypes for end user products.
