Filtronic PLC24 January 2005 For release (7:00am) (24 January 2005) Filtronic Plc: BOARD APPOINTMENT Iain Gibson Joins as CEO designate, Integrated Products Division Filtronic plc, a leading provider of customised microwave electronic subsystemsfor the wireless telecommunications and defence industries, announces theappointment of Iain Andrew Gibson as CEO designate of the Integrated ProductsDivision, effective from 21st February 2005. He will be leaving BAE SYSTEMSAvionics Group where he occupied the position of Executive Vice President forEurofighter Typhoon and Radar equipment products. As announced previously, the incumbent CEO, Professor Christopher Snowden willon 5th April 2005 take up the post of Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive ofSurrey University (although he will remain as a technical consultant to theCompany in the area of Compound Semiconductors). The succession arrangementallows for a useful overlap period before Mr. Gibson assumes management andboard responsibilities on Professor Snowden's departure. Iain Gibson (50) is an MA Honours graduate of Edinburgh University in Economicsand Economic History, is experienced in contract and commercial management andhas attended the UK Civil Service Top Management Programme. He has internationalexperience in Europe the US and the Far East, operating at senior management andboard level. His commercial skills will enhance the capacity of the FiltronicBoard in the area of business strategy and planning. Commenting, Professor David Rhodes, Chairman said: "I look forward to Iain'sarrival to the Board, adding strength to the management team. He will inheritthe excellent technology position built up by Professor Snowden and focus on itssteady conversion to business value in communications, defence and securitymarkets." Iain Gibson is married with three children. His hobbies include hill-walking andplaying brass instruments.
