First Quantum Minerals REPORTS New quarterly RECORD COPPER PRODUCTION IN 

second QUARTER 2008 

First Quantum Minerals Ltd. ("First Quantum" or the "Company", TSX Symbol "FM", LSE Symbol "FQM") today announced a new quarterly record copper production of 80,600 tonnes for the second quarter of 2008. The new record exceeds the production levels of the second quarter of 2007 and the first quarter of 2008 by over 60% and 6%, respectively.

Stockpiles of copper concentrate at the end of the second quarter totaled approximately 28,600 tonnes of copper in concentrate (Kansanshi 16,300 tonnes, Frontier 10,800 tonnes and Guelb Moghrein 1,500 tonnes), a decrease of 3,000 tonnes from the March 31, 2008 level of 31,600 tonnes.

Note: Production and stockpile numbers are preliminary and may be subject to final adjustment.
