Exploration Update and Detailed Water Monitoring Programme Begins
Edenville Energy plc (AIM: EDL) is pleased to provide an update on the status of the Rukwa Coal to Power Project near Sumbawanga, in south western Tanzania.
Power Plant EIA Work Update
Following the award of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for Edenville's proposed coal mining at Rukwa in 2014 and the publication of a positive Power Plant Feasibility Study in March 2015, Edenville are pleased to report the commencement of field activities which will underpin the Power Plant EIA, a key component for development of the Rukwa Coal to Power Project.
The Company has commenced a water survey and sampling programme to provide data for the Power Plant EIA, which will be submitted once the definitive power plant design has been confirmed. This EIA, which will cover power plant, transmission and emissions, requires extensive water level monitoring and water samples to provide baseline data for wet and dry seasons.
Under the supervision of Mark Pryor, COO, Edenville's trained field team are working alongside the Company's environmental consultants to implement and run the water monitoring programme to internationally accepted standards. A dip meter will monitor the water table at a series of selected drill holes covering the 8km strike length of the Mkomolo deposit and a Portable Colorimetric Laboratory for Environmental Water Quality has been purchased in order to establish water quality variations through the seasons.
This test work and data monitoring programme will continue over the life of the project, for both the coal mining and power generation operations, to ensure acceptable standards are maintained.
Exploration Work Update
The geophysical survey that was commenced in June is ongoing. Fill-in lines between the Mkomolo and Namwele deposits are now complete with the grid extension moving northwards to cover the western extension of the Mkomolo region. This data is currently being interpreted by Edenville's geologists.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Update
Edenville continues to work closely with the local community to fulfil its CSR responsibilities. School supplies are being organised for delivery to local schools in the area, alongside work to upgrade several school buildings.
Rufus Short, CEO of Edenville commented, "Edenville continues to advance the Rukwa Coal to Power project and the commencement of water monitoring and data gathering is another important step in collating the information necessary for the Power Plant Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
Discussions with Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partners continue and it is important to note that these negotiations are not dependent on the submission of the Power Plant EIA.
A 12 month data set is required to build an accurate picture of water levels to support the Power Plant EIA, so it important this work is started as soon as possible. We were delighted to receive our EIA for the Rukwa Coal Mine in 2014 and will work closely with the same consultants to move through the Power Plant EIA process.
We will continue to update our shareholders on developments relating to the Rukwa Coal to Power Project as they occur."
