EDENVILLE ENERGY PLC ("Edenville" or the "Company")
Coal Exploration Update, Tanzania
Edenville Energy plc (AIM:EDL), the coal focused African energy exploration and development company, today provides an update on activities on its projects in southern Tanzania.
The drilling contractor Edenville has engaged to undertake a programme of diamond core drilling at the Rukwa Coalfields project is scheduled to start operation in early July. The Company is undertaking site preparation for both access and construction of drill platforms at the Namwele and Mkomolo deposits. Holes will be drilled vertically with average depths of 100m with some holes planned to 200m.
During 2011 the Company has undertaken comprehensive geological survey work over the Namwele and Mkomolo deposits. This work has been supported by manual pitting and trenching to expose the underlying geology, which tends to be covered by 3-4m, on average, of overburden. The objective of this work was the delineation of the underlying Karoo-aged sediments, and to aid in drill planning through identification of shale units which host the coal measures and occur in close proximity to the underlying basement gneisses. 7km of strike length and 3km of strike at Mkomolo and Namwele, respectively, will be investigated during the drill programme.
The Company has field crews making survey visits to the recently acquired licences near Kiwira in order to develop an exploration programme and to identify key target zones. A defined programme is expected to be complete by the end of this half.
Simon Rollason, Chairman of Edenville, commented that "The work completed at Rukwa over the past months has provided the information necessary to facilitate planning of the impending drill programme. We remain on course with our previous goal of identifying a maiden JORC compliant resource at the Rukwa project during the year. Edenville is also in the process of initiating prospecting on additional projects in our portfolio for the presence of near surface coal. We are scheduled to complete the preparation work for drilling at our Rukwa Coalfield project imminently and to commence our fully funded exploration drilling programme on these licences directly afterwards."
