UBC announces further radio stations join iPhone 'App' network

Further to its announcement on April 14th, UBC Media Group plc ("UBC") is pleased today to announce the signing of agreements with a further 4 radio groups who will join its network of mobile applications based around Apple's iPhone.

UBC's software division, Unique Interactive ("UI") is developing and supplying iPhone and other mobile platform applications ("Apps") to radio clients for free in return for selling advertising space within the applications. Revenue from the advertising, which is being sold by the 'Lynx Content' internet advertising business acquired by UBC last year, is then shared between UBC and the radio station client.

Today the Jazz FM, Tindle Radio, Orion Media and UKRD/TLRC radio groups join the network, which already includes UTV plc's radio stations and Planet Rock. This brings the total number of radio stations for whom UBC will be producing mobile applications to 45 with a total combined weekly reach of just under 7 million listeners.

The purpose-built Apps will allow users to listen to their radio station wherever they have wifi or a mobile signal, but importantly will also provide a wide range of additional features for them to enjoy such as instant programme reminders, listen again and social network interaction.

The advertising network will launch early next month with an App for talkSPORT as part of the station's build up to the World Cup, the other stations will launch their Apps over the next 3 months.

UBC has experience in the development of advertiser network projects in commercial radio. In 2000 it began to develop a network providing traffic and travel news to the UK radio industry; a business it sold in 2009 to American company Global Traffic Networks for £10.9m in cash.
