At just over 4000p a share, this is a great defensive stock for the dividend and long term potential capital growth in SP. I have put my money where my mouth is and have purchased 20,000 GBP recently at these levels. Over the longer term, this shall surely come good. It is a solid ROCK of a share and a very well run company overall with strong fundamentals. GLA and DYOR!

As the impending global recession nears, many companies (including BATS) will drop back further. I expect BATS to get back to the 2600p SP range in the very near future.
However, at those prices - I would be topping up and adding to my portfolio.

Yes, I agree with some posters that VOD is beginning to trade like an AIM stock. There are fairly big swings on a daily/weekly basis. I am still a long term shareholder as for my entry level, I am looking at a 7% annual dividend yield (assuming no changes to last year's divi payments). I am aware that with COVID-19, it is a very fluid situation and any such divi payments is of course subject to change. As a LTH, I am also hopeful that in the coming few years, VOD will recover back to its previous levels and a SP in the region of 135-140p a share will be reached. As such, I would recommend a HOLD for VOD.

I have faith in the executive management of TSCO, I am sure the special dividend payment will take place...but at an appropriate time when such negative sentiments and any bad PR will be very much limited.
It seems the CEO of TSCO is certainly doing a better job than the CEO of SBRY! :)

Was very disappointed to see SBRY defer their dividend payment, the results for SBRY was also disappointing. I am starting to wonder what the results and outcomes for MRW will be like in comparison on the 12th May!? FTSE 100 seems to have taken a bit of a slump on Friday too. Fingers crossed that MRW will do better and maintain their dividend payment.

That was a somewhat disappointing set of results by SBRY yesterday. I think it does give the new CEO a clean slate and one hopes that he can do a far better job in improving performance and maximizing profitability going forward.
Perhaps, I was too optimistic and idealist - but I was hoping for far more and far better. The most disappointing part of the results was the deferment of the dividend payment until later this year.

I think IMB has the potential to recover strongly and it has always rewarded shareholders well, with a rather generous dividend payout. I have purchased these with the view of being a fairly long term holder (at least 3 years). Hoping for a solid dividend return on my money and some capital growth in the share price over the next few years. Not hoping for a multi-bagger but certainly looking for solid defensives with uncertain times ahead. GLA to IMB investors!

Dropped close to 180.50p a share in early trading today. At that price, I think MRW is a fantastic buy for the medium to long term. I could imagine the Q1 results on 12th May being quite positive and should cause an uptick in the SP, with increased dividends being paid out going forward. I wish I had topped up more at those levels this morning! :)

There has been a lot of share price volatility/variance recently. I am also hopeful that this is on the top too. We shall have to wait and see.

I have sold my NG shares for a 800 GBP net profit. As I only held the shares for less than 3 weeks, I feel that it has proven already to be a great short term investment. I am using my original investment plus the profit to wait for better buying opportunities. I still think that a short global recession will occur and as such, there will be another market drop and a great buying opportunity for many shares. If NG shares dip back to sub 870p a share, then I would seriously consider re-investing in them again. GLA investors!

This will suffer in the sub 125p a share region for the next 2 years. However, in the long term - i can actually see oil prices recovering to a significantly higher level than today. When that happens, GKP can hopefully reach previous levels of 250p a share. However, I think that is a LONG way away. I have so many of these shares at incredibly high prices - I will be holding through the recovery. GLA to long term shareholders!

Yes, agreed. All supermarkets like TSCO, SBRY, MRW are strong buys. They should all do well. Dividend payments will also definitely occur, in line with Tesco's example. If trading statements are positive (which there are no reasons why they shouldn't be), we may even see dividend increases! In the medium term, there will also be some solid/decent capital growth in the supermarket shares too. GLA!

I would recommend a buy for SBRY as well, I cannot see supermarkets doing badly whilst the whole nation is in lockdown.

Let's wait for the news on Wednesday morning. I am hopeful that there will be good news, seemingly we have been getting a lot of bad news on a daily basis recently (global escalation of the coronavirus problem, stock markets have had the worst Q1 ever in recorded history, oil prices have plunged, potential global recession looming etc). Fingers crossed, TSCO is a solid defensive stock and one which we hope shall do well in the current situation that we face. GLA!

@danielh, I can see no reason why the current dividend would not hold but I have no crystal ball so cannot say for certain. But even if it did, and let's say that in the worst case scenario, it was slashed by half (somewhat unlikely, but let's assume the worst)! That is still 3.5%...What banks or building societies can pay you 3.5% annual interest after taxes and deductions? The answer is almost zero...But each to their own of course. Good luck mate!

Agreed @ juyamah. Just before the end of the previous tax year, I topped up 15,000 GBP of VOD shares at around 108.5p per share in to my Stocks and Shares ISA. With a near 7% annual dividend yield (which I intend to reinvest in to more VOD shares) and capital growth in the SP over the longer term. I would imagine that at some stage within the next 7 years, that I would surely double my money (net, due to the Stocks and Shares ISA being exempt from taxes). As always for PIs, DYOR - but one thing that we will still be using during the coronavirus saga and the upcoming recession are mobile phones and data. As such, VOD seems like a solid defensive blue chip. GLA!

I too will be drip feeding the majority of my income and my salary in to the CTY share price. At the low 300s, this is a great investment fund to buy. With a 6.2% annual dividend yield and a potential 25% upside in longer term capital growth, this is a must buy and hold. In the new UK tax year, from 6th April, I will be using my 20,000 GBP ISA allowance in a Stocks and Shares ISA to increase my holding on CTY. This is a quality/premium company based on strong fundamentals. GLA!

Agree with many of the previous posters. Investing in GSK as either part of your Stocks and Shares ISA or as part of your general sharedealing portfolio is a defensive must. It is a solid blue chip with an excellent annual dividend yield of around 5.5%. Plus, at these prices there is definitive potential capital growth of around 15-25%. Buy and hold for the coming next 5 years and you can't go too far wrong...

Indeed, there is always the possibility of a NO DEAL agreement between OPEC and the major oil players. I believe that as the coronavirus situation escalates and there is a continued lack of demand for oil due to a global lockdown. Economies will also be affected and a worldwide recession is just around the corner, as such I think that in the coming months BP will go down to around 300p a share. That is of course my own personal belief based on my 15+ years of investing experiences and personal opinion. Have always watched and read posts on the sidelines in LSE. However, I see this as a once in a lifetime opportunity. Savvy investors should be using their incomes, salaries to continually top up in the stock markets. Over a longer term span e.g. 5 years. A lot of these shares will see 50+% increases in capital growth with solid annual dividends too. GLA and as always DYOR! That is my 2 cents.
