"2018 was marked by the execution of 5 drillings on the Sebou central and western rharb permits by our partner SDX Energy, four of which are positive," the management said. Two discoveries were recorded at the ONZ-7 (Oulad Nzala-7) well at 1,167.5 meters depth and the LNB-1 well (Lanaabsa -1) at 1,861 meters.
On the Grand Tendrara permits, Sound Energy carried out drilling which showed promising gas showings and acquired 1.410,52 km of 2D seismic. On the Anoual licenses, Sound Energy has carried out a 2D seismic program of 342.65 km. In offshore, ENI and its partners Woodside and Chariot Oil drilled a well on the offshore Rabat Deep licenses. In parallel, Kosmos, Genel, Teredo and SDX Enery made 12,749 km² of 3D seismic on their respective licenses.
Three new oil agreements were signed in 2018. The first was signed with Sound Energy and Schlumberger on the Grand Tendrara zone, a deposit that will supply power to the Aïn Beni Mathar and Tahadart power plants. The second was initialed with Sound Energy in the Sidi Moktar Onshore area.
The third was concluded with the companies Repsol and Shell on the Tanfit zone. This latest agreement marks the comeback of two mastodons of oil exploration, to the delight of the management of the Office. These agreements are the fruit of the strategy to promote the oil potential of Moroccan sedimentary basins, says the Office.
To better sell Morocco's soil potential to investors and further develop oil research, Onhym participated in 16 international conferences in 2018 and carried out a door-to-door campaign in the United Kingdom and the USA.

To make up for the shortcomings of the current hydrocarbon code, the Ministry of Supervision plans to amend Law No. 21-90 on research and exploitation. Objective: to simplify procedures and introduce non-traditional hydrocarbons. The new legislative and regulatory provisions concern the research and exploitation of unconventional hydrocarbons (oil shale and shale gas). The amendment also aims to introduce possible incentives to make this code more attractive and competitive.
Moroccan soil remains under-explored despite the efforts of the National Office for Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM). Unsurprisingly, oil and gas exploration will maintain the same pace as in 2018. The investments planned for this year will amount to 2.44 billion dirhams, including 38 million for Onhym and 2.4 billion dirhams. for partners (98.4%).
This envelope will be used for geophysical acquisitions (2D / 1.300 km seismic) as well as the drilling, by the partners, of nine onshore exploration wells including two development wells. These are the Western Gharb (4-well), Lalla Mimouna (1), Grand Tendrara (1), Haha Onshore (1) and the Tendrara concession (2). The main players are Sound Energy, SDX Energy, PEL / Forpetro and Repsol / Shell. The other partners will continue their evaluation work programmed on their different zones.
Offshore, Genel, Teredo and Kosmos plan, in 2019, the treatment and interpretation of 12,509 km² of 3D seismic on behalf of the Onhym. In addition, NewAge will prepare the acquisition of 2,000 km² of 3D seismic.
As for the work scheduled by Onhym, they will focus on assessing the potential of conventional and unconventional hydrocarbons in the different onshore and offshore basins between Tangier and Lagouira. This is to promote them to the oil industry.
In parallel, the Office will ensure the technological watch and the follow-up of the evolution of the Moroccan submission of the extension of its continental shelf Atlantic beyond 200M sailor with the United Nations Commission in charge of the limits of the continental shelf (CLPC).
In terms of achievements, "2018 was marked by the continuation of the oil exploration activities of the partners in accordance with their commitments," said the Office. Global investments totaled 2.5 billion dirhams, including 32.20 million disbursed by the Onhym and 2.47 billion financed by oil companies or consortia. This envelope was used for the acquisition of 12,749 km² (3D seismic) in addition to 1,753.17 km (2D seismic) and the drilling of seven exploration wells, four of which are positive.
