Charles Jillings, CEO of Utilico, energized by strong economic momentum across Latin America. Watch the video here.
The first well is now expected to spud in Q1 2010 and is estimated to cost about
$4m to drill and test. It will be targeting an un-risked reserves range of 5-40 mmbls in
the previously discovered Jurassic reservoirs at depths of 2,000-3,000m. The
company is planning to start pilot production once the post-drill reserves estimate is
submitted and approved by the State Reserve Committee. Roxi would drill further 3-
4 wells to grow production and revenues if the first well is successful. Initially, 100%
of production would probably be sold domestically, but in due course, the company
is planning to apply for an export licence which would significantly improve net
backs.
Successful drilling and development of the shallower reservoirs would put Roxi in a
strong position to unlock deeper potential on BNG. It is planning to drill an appraisal
well to evaluate pre-salt reserves discovered by the Yelemes G1 well. The well
would be targeting an un-risked reserves range of 20-60 mmbls in the Lower
Permian reservoirs at depths of approximately 3,500-4,500 metres. The company is
encouraged by the fact that, despite poor drilling techniques in the 1980s, the
original discovery well was tested at rates of up to 1,800 bopd. Roxi estimates the
first pre-salt well to cost approximately $13m; however, future wells are likely to cost
less once the pressure regime and potential H2S hazards are better understood.
Roxi is also progressing with exploration studies and has already identified some 25
leads in the block. Furthermore, the company is to acquire seismic over the southern
part of the block to target known Jurassic and Carboniferous reservoirs as well as
Cretaceous and Permo-Triassic potential.
Previous exploration and drilling activity on BNG has mainly covered the northern
part of the block leading to two discoveries on the Yelemes structure in 1980s. As a
result, BNG has 42 mmbls of state-registered C1+C2 reserves, 2 mmbls in Jurassic
(2,200 m) discovered by the Yelemes G54 well and 40 mmbls deep pre-salt reserves
(4,000 m) discovered by the Yelemes G1 well. In addition, hydrocarbons were also
encountered in two other wells, in the Ayrshagyl P1 and Saztobe P1 wells. However,
these reserves require further appraisal before they can be booked into SPEcompliant 2P reserves.

Geologically, BNG sits in the South Emba sub-basin of the Pre-Caspian Basin on the
major tectonic boundary between the Pre-Caspian and North Ustyurt Basins. It is
surrounded by various producing oil and gas fields, but, more importantly, there are
three producing fields within the block boundaries – the Nsanovskoye, Tasym and
Tolkyn fields – which have been excluded from the contract area. The stratigraphy in
the Northern part of the block is typical of the Pre-Caspian pre-salt and post-salt
sequences with proven reservoirs in the Middle Jurassic and potential clastic and
carbonate reservoirs in the Lower Permian and Carboniferous. The Permian salt
layer is absent in the southern part of the block.
Roxi acquired and completed initial processing of 366 square km of 3D seismic,
which covered the Yelemes and Ayrshagyl structures in the northern part of the
block. The data is currently being evaluated and Roxi expects to firm up well
locations for the 2010-2011drilling programme by Q1 2010. The farm-out agreement
signed with Canamens in January 2009 provided much-needed funding to maintain
the planned pace of development. Canamens agreed to fund up to $50m of the
gross work programme in return for 35% of the equity.

Have been trying to work out if the old 1980's Soviet well G1 at Yelemes that was tested at 1800bopd is close to 802 and is this the Soviet well that had the blow out. Interesting information contained in this old 2009 Matrix broker note pages 13 & 14.
