SITE VISIT TO THE HOPE AND GOROB MINING PROJECT
A delegation from the Erongo Regional Council, led by the Chairperson and Karibib Constituency Councillor, Hon. Lazarus Kanelombe, conducted an official site visit to the Hope and Gorob Mining Project today, 07 May 2026, together with the Honourable Governor of the region, Nathalia /Goagoses. The delegation included Walvis Bay Rural Constituency Councillor Hon. Ruben Shikongo, Walvis Bay Urban Constituency Councillor Hon. Albertina Nkoshi, as well as the Walvis Bay Municipality Councillors, Chief Regional Officer, Dr. Mupenzeni Ntelamo, and Deputy Director of Planning, Mr. Sylvester Mubila.
The General Manager, Mr. Luther Rukira, welcomed the delegation at the project site is located approximately 120 km southeast of the major African port of Walvis Bay, and outlined the project’s strategic vision and operational approach. Project representatives highlighted the presence of massive sulphide deposits and the strong potential for high-grade copper production. Emphasis was placed on environmentally responsible mining practices designed to minimize surface disturbance while supporting long-term sustainability. The project team expressed confidence in the development’s capacity to create sustainable employment opportunities and contribute meaningfully to the regional economy.
Current mineralization at the site is predominantly copper, with gold and silver occurring as associated credits. Exploration and technical studies completed to date have focused on defining mineral resources, evaluating mining methods, and reviewing processing and logistics options, including access to regional infrastructure.
Regional leadership confirmed its support for the development, subject to full compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, and with a strong focus on the empowerment of Namibian workers. Groundbreaking for the project is scheduled for June 2026.
