The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring Jeremy Skillington, CEO of Poolbeg Pharma has just been released. Listen here.
The Secretary of State may (not "will") appoint one or more persons to fill the vacancy. There is no obligation on the Secretary of State to do anything, it simply has an option to do so. In the current political climate, my guess is that nothing will be done by the government to help a sanctioned entity but you never know.
I'd be interested to know why the company hasn't published a trading update. Also, whether unaudited accounts will be made available. They've told us what they can't do but nothing about things that they can.
Clever people, or well connected people with inside information? There is a difference you know...
If RA had access to information about VP's intentions, then that doesn't necessarily mean he's a clever man. He's close to VP which is why he was sanctioned, not because he's clever. If we were sanctioning people for being clever then I'm sure the list of sanctioned individuals would be quite a bit longer.
It wasn't launched from a 737. That would almost be comical. It was a 747. We, in the West, sometimes call the 747 a "Jumbo Jet" or the "Queen of the Skies".
Ukraine also used to have a spectacular cargo jet called the Antonov An-225 Mriya. I had the pleasure of seeing it land at Stansted Airport once. Unfortunately, the Russian Army decided it needed to be destroyed in order to liberate Ukraine from Nazism. I hope it gets rebuilt one day.
Have all Russian space launches been successful? I seem to recall a Soyuz launch failure a few years ago. I'm sure there have been plenty, after all, it is literally rocket science.
dab808 - couldn't agree more; DL are a total mess. I had motor insurance policy with them. Made a claim after getting rear ended while stationary. The car was worth around £4k. Instead of paying out the claim they made me go to court to prove that the damage was indeed caused by my car being hit. With adjourned hearings, DL must have spent over £10k on their solicitor and barrister fees instead of offering to settle for less then half of that amount. I probably would have settled for £2k if they bothered to make an offer but they seemed up for a pointless fight. They showed no commercial sense whatsoever.
It's not just that DL waste money on legal fees. I had home and car nsurance with DL but won't go near them now. We have my wife's car, my day-to-day car and two classic cars so that's a fair amount of business. All my policies now with Aviva when I was with DL for years before.
I thought this was actually a more interesting story than the UK sanctions news today.
Ukraine has told the US not to sanction RA, as he was helping them. Now that they have sanctioned him themselves it will be interesting to see what the US do and what, if any, impact that will have on the Evraz NA sale.
Not sure I agree. The main shareholder was sanctioned earlier in the year and then the company itself. Today two further shareholders were sanctioned. How does what happened today make this a write off? Surely this was a "write off" the moment the company was sanctioned, if that's your outlook on the situation.
The company continues to operate. It may choose to delist and relist elsewhere at some stage. The events of today have not changed the company's current position in any way IMHO.
It seems Ukraine has sanctioned RA. The sanctions will take effect once the exchange of prisoners and bodies has been completed.

From Sky News:
Downing Street has confirmed in the last few minutes that four additional Russian oligarchs with links to Vladimir Putin will be sanctioned.
They include Alexander Abramov and Alexander Frolov, who have been targeted for their involvement in the extractive, transport, and construction sectors.
The pair, associated with Roman Abramovich, had owned major stakes in Russian steel manufacturer Evraz plc, and are thought to have an estimated net worth of £4.1bn and £1.7bn respectively.
They are reported to have UK property investments worth an estimated £100m.
Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said: "Putin continues to rely on his cabal of selected elite to maintain control of his industrial complex and fuel his illegal invasion of Ukraine.
"Today we are sanctioning an additional four oligarchs who rely on Putin for their positions of authority and in turn fund his military machine.
"By targeting these individuals, we are ramping up the economic pressure on Putin and will continue to do so until Ukraine prevails."
Others receiving sanctions today are Airat Shaimiev, who has an estimated global net worth of £902m, and Albert Shigabutdinov, who has an estimated global net worth of £977m.
All are subject to travel bans, asset freezes and transport sanctions.
