I've just emailed BE to ask if we will be seeing an RNS officially announcing the winning of the US grant that we found out about via Twitter. After all, this is significant news which deserves to be shouted from the rooftops imo.

I'll let you know when I get an answer. (Obviously the answer I'd like to see is an RNS appearing)

"He emphasises that the amendment "would need to reinforce the fundamental principles of the property clause", including the prohibition on "the arbitrary deprivation of property", and outlines some instances where expropriation without compensation might be justified: "unused land, derelict buildings, purely speculative land holdings, or circumstances where occupiers have strong historical rights and title holders do not occupy or use their land, such as labour tenancy, informal settlements and abandoned inner-city buildings".

That's a great riposte to Trumps tweet and, if that is actually true then EWC could be good news instead of bad for SA.

spbhoy in the space of 8 minutes someone sold 350,000 shares which had the effect - intended or otherwise - of dropping the sp, but we've now bounced back up to where we were before these trades appeared

Actually, that situation is quite interesting because there are only 3 primary V producers in the world, 2 of which are in SA and the 3rd has a 100% offtake already in place. Also China is the worlds biggest producer but can't even produce enough to satisfy its domestic demand.

So what will/can Trump do? Go without vanadium? Hahahaha!!

There's some talk in this article that this could potentially blow up into something bigger ie SA being removed from the African Growth and Opportunity Act which allows favourable South African exports to the US.

That could affect us, although with V being listed as a critical metal in the US, possibly not. Meanwhile, diplomatic channels are being employed to defuse the situation.

Does anyone have more knowledge of this subject than me? It would be useful to have an informed opinion if possible.

I would expect an RNS telling the world about this grant, perhaps later today?

"ENERGY STORAGE PILOT

Separately, USTDA has also signed a $500 000 grant in favour of Bushveld Energy, which is promoting the deployment of the Vanadium Redox Flow battery (VRFB) in South Africa.

The grant will be used in support of a pilot project to demonstrate the performance of an energy storage system in South Africa.

For the first 18 months of the assessment, Eskom will test the VRFB system at its Rosherville research centre, south of Johannesburg. Thereafter, the unit will be relocated to an alternative site to further evaluate the role the battery could play in the South African context.

Bushveld Energy CEO Mikhail Nikomarov tells Engineering News Online the USTDA grant will enable the company to expand the scope of the pilot to include a study into the ability of the battery to offer multiple services either simultaneous, or over the course of a day.

“The idea would be to define the most immediate business cases for the battery.”

The second site has not yet been selected and Nikomarov says the initial modelling work is likely to assist with the selection of the most suitable commercial site.

The VRFB will have a peak power of 120 kW and 450 kWh peak energy storage. Bushveld Energy’s US-based technology partner, UniEnergy Technologies, has manufactured the unit. "

It appears that the protesters had some ridiculous demands, like 'give us 1000 jobs by next Tue', and 'give us 30% of your business' etc.so if it only took 4 days to defuse this then FM & Co did an excellent job IMO

Great timing and well played Dryland. Unfortunately I took my eyes off the ball for some lunch and when I came back we were already down at 23p and still falling.

Not a bad recovery tho, and hopefully more recovery again tomorrow as the negatives are more widely understood and put into the proper perspectives.

Mantashe wants to axe long-delayed MPRDA Amendment Bill

"Mantashe told parliament’s mineral resources portfolio committee on Wednesday that his view, and that of his department, was that the bill should be withdrawn, allowing the mining industry to be governed by the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA) in its present form. There was nothing in the act which inhibits the sector."

"It is excellent news as much as a very sensible move by Mantashe," said Herbert Smith Freehills partner and mine law expert Peter Leon.

"Of particular concern to the industry about the amendment bill is a proposal requiring mining companies intending to export minerals to apply for written consent from the mineral resources minister, who might apply certain conditions.

Producers of designated minerals would also be required to offer a percentage of the minerals to local beneficiators."

Well they do say there's no such thing as bad publicity and I reckon a lot of new investors had a look at what all the fuss was all about and jumped in. I know many will be traders but equally there will be many who can't believe how much money we're making and will stick around for a longer ride.
