Amcu retracts strike notices after legal advice

Over the past weekend, the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) took a decision to withdraw a notice of secondary strike action at several mines after it was advised by its lawyers to retract strike notices.

Contributor at Mining MX Ed Stoddard says he assumes that Amcu lawyers may have advised the union that a secondary strike could be legally vulnerable and if it was to go ahead, it will probably be declared unprotected by the courts.

Amcu is known for drama and high drama at that and essentially their lawyers could've advised them to be sensible about this.

Amcu was planning to up the pressure on Sibanye-Stillwater through a seven-day campaign of secondary strikes.

But considering the state in which the mining industry in the country finds itself in where hundreds of jobs are being shed, Stoddard says it is probably a good thing that Amcu has heeded advice from its legal council.

This morning there's some further info on this, and it's reassuring news IMO. The report below is by miningmx who really know their stuff, and the paragraph I would highlight is this one:

"In terms of section 66 of the Labour Relations Act, unions are entitled to call secondary strikes where it assists them in a primary wage dispute provided there is a financial link between the company targeted in the secondary strike with the company involved in the primary dispute."

To the best of my knowledge we have no financial link to Sibanye-Stillwater so it's highly unlikely Bushy will be affected.

In addition, the AMCU have also been advised that one of their secondary strikes would be illegal so they've already pulled the plug on that one.

The report also adds clarity on the duration of the strike - 7 days - for those companies who may be affected (SA Gold miners + SA PGM miners).

Ah poo! Oh well, "Fortune"ately Bushy has given me well in excess of £100,000 profit to date so I guess I can probably afford the £20pcm or whatever it is on here. After all, I'm in the same boat as pb940 and whoever else it was said they had ~300k BMN shares. Give it 2-3 years and, if all goes well, I'll be in the 7 figure club with quite a few others on this board ;-)

I'm on Investing.com which shows the spread and the price of last trade but not the size or the value, but I can't find a way to get a full list of todays trades. Can anyone point me in the right direction pls?

I can't even get onto the MoneyAM site today as I keep getting a security warning msg, prob cos I'm in Spain, but even using a VPN gives me the same msg.

I also found out that Equiniti have increased their delay this morning to 1 hour (from 15 mins y'day) and it looks like HL have pulled the same stunt :-(

I might have to cough up on here to get current trades...

Zeb you could well be right, perhaps it was an order from earlier in the day that was filled just after 16:30. I was going from the prices around that trade but you'd think I'd learn by now that it's all trickery and kidology

600k from last night but it had zero effect on this mornings price rise :-)

GB you can try Equiniti, that's free but sometimes has a few trades missing which simply never appear, also it's delayed but I can't recall what the delay is as I switched to MoneyAM several months back
