Superdielectrics Ltd is in the process of transitioning from an Intellectual Property business model towards a revenue-based model. In essence we are in the early preparation stages of monetising our Intellectual Property. To achieve this, we have been focussed on acquiring the necessary technical data to further develop commercial discussions and prepare for new potential negotiations. To help visualise our current position, we believe SD Ltd is in a similar position to a Pre-Revenue Biotechnology company with a possible blockbuster drug that is about to enter the market.
I am delighted that, at this time, our scientific team has not run into any unforeseen problems and the recently accumulated data is encouraging. Professor Ian
Hamerton (Bristol University) and Dr Brendan Howlin (Surrey University) gave an up- to-date technical presentation at the Battery Technology Show in London on October 24th. A video of their presentation is currently available on our website.
Preliminary data is demonstrating that we have stability in our supercapacitors over 2,500 cycles, that the short-term cycle efficiency is above 80%, energy density is estimated at 26 Wh/kg and costs of raw materials are less than 20% of the final manufactured prices of existing supercapacitors ($5,000-10,000 /kWh).
Our financial and commercial strategy consists of three elements:
Firstly, to continue to raise a limited amount of capital to strengthen our Balance Sheet. This could be from new equity investors or debt. These funds would enable the company to accelerate research and development. Additionally, a stronger Balance Sheet is very helpful during commercial negotiations.
Secondly, to obtain more cycle test data, and in parallel, develop higher energy density supercapacitors. We believe that the combination of cycle data and higher energy densities should translate into increased shareholder value through higher future potential license/Joint Venture fees.
Thirdly, to develop our first revenues from either a joint development agreement or limited license agreement. As previously reported these discussions are, and will continue to be, protracted. There are no guarantees and many uncertainties.
It is the belief of the Board of Superdielectrics Ltd that if first revenues are achieved,
on reasonable terms, there should be a substantial positive impact on the valuation of the company.
Superdielectrics Ltd plans to present at the Mobility Re-Imagined Move 2019 event being held on February 12th/13th (Excel, London). The event has over 350 speakers from around the world and is about developing new clean transportation solutions. The title of our presentation is “Beyond Batteries: Breakthrough Supercapacitor Materials”.
As always, I repeat that caution is essential: the final outcome and commercial value of our work is not certain.
