KEFI's project teams have remained on the ground throughout this period of broader national conflict, preparing for the launch of the Company's Tulu Kapi Gold Project (the "Project") in an appropriate safety-minded manner. At the same time, Project syndicate members have reaffirmed their intended Project participation as soon as compliance is demonstrated with normal conditions precedent, including the community and security aspects of World Bank IFC Performance Standards - also a condition of the mining licence.

It looks like the TPLF have virtually retreated to Tigray now and are no longer a threat (so no excuses Harry!)
Abiy will be a hero to most of the Ethiopian people but must be magnanimous in defeat otherwise Tigray will be a continuing thorn in their side. The US have completely screwed up here. They have made little effort to hide their support for the TPLF despite their appalling human rights record. The US see Abiy as a socialist which of course he isn't. And Abiy won't forget the support from the UAE and Turkey and China.

Abiy’s office tweeted that Ethiopian soldiers now controlled the town of Shewa Robit, 220 km (136 miles) northeast of Addis Ababa, and eight other towns and villages. It said Mezezo, Molale, Rasa areas were liberated from TPLF forces.

Getachew Reda, the spokesman for the Tigrayan forces, was not available for comment.

Reuters spoke to a resident in the village of Gragne Amba, 25 km (15 miles) southwest from the town of Lalibela, a UN World Heritage site home to famous rock-hewn churches, who said Tigrayan forces had left her village yesterday.

“I thought they were joking and TPLF fighters said ‘Many of Abiy’s soldiers are coming,'” she told Reuters. “This morning we saw Amhara special forces. They told us they are here for us and they tried to comfort us.”

She said the Amhara forces had left in the direction of Lalibela on Wednesday morning, and residents coming from that direction said the Tigrayan forces had left there too.

Reuters spoke to two people who originally lived in Lalibela and fled the fighting, who said relatives had called and said Tigrayan forces had left the town. The phone network in the town was down, they said, but relatives were able to go to an area near the airport that had a bit of mobile phone reception.

The value of the Company's projects have, by the Company's estimates (using NPV analysis), more than doubled over the past year and are expected to increase further due to targeted expansion of resources and reserves over the coming year. The next update and upgrade to a Mineral Resource Estimate is scheduled for December 2021 in respect of the Hawiah Copper-Gold Project in Saudi Arabia. Looking beyond the short term, the Company has a large project pipeline to foster further growth following the planned triggering of its first developments in Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia in 2022 and 2023.

The Ethiopian political situation and the limited impact the civil war in Ethiopia has had on KEFI.


The conflicts in the Ethiopian civil war have all been well away (c 1000km) from the Tulu Kapi Project site. After the Ethiopian Government unilaterally declared a ceasefire on 28 June 2021, rebel forces proceeded to occupy large parts of the neighbouring states of Afar and Amhara (adjacent to the State of Tigray where the rebels originate) in July-September 2021. The rebels have not entered the State of Oromia where the Tulu Kapi Gold Project and Ethiopia's capital city Addis Ababa are located.

After the Ethiopian Government was re-elected in October 2021, it launched major military offensives which in recent days has led to the rebel militias retreating from Afar as government forces continue to advance on the rebel militia positions in Amhara. In addition, independent mediation efforts have gathered pace backed by the African Union and United Nations amongst others.

Prime Minister Abiy called on TPLF fighters to surrender peacefully and save themselves. In a televised broadcast, the PM said, “We have completed devising a plan to exterminate the enemy,” adding, “The enemy has been defeated.” Abiy went on to address TPLF fighters who he said are engaged in fighting without knowledge of the area’s landscape and a clear direction and asked them to surrender to government forces as soon as possible. “The Tigrayan youth who was coaxed into this aimless fighting and dying in masses should understand that the war is over,” he said.

The PM disclosed that he discussed with the army the ‘the last plan’ of one of the fronts he is currently spearheading. He also explained that the army will move on to the offensive, “We are ready, the military and its leadership are ready.” The PM vowed to complete the war in a short time and with minimal sacrifice.

Abiy assured the preparedness of the military who he said is in high spirits, “What we want is national unity, peace and development, we were forced into this war but victory is inevitable.” He also reminded citizens of the sacrifice the army is paying at the battle front and urged them to return the favor by continuing their support.

I think we are finaly looking at a turning point in the war here. Ideally, this would lead to a ceasefire but if they all keep away from TK that woudl be good enough for now...
The victory means the TPLF has been almost totally pushed out of the lowlands and the path of advance eastward toward Mile, which sits on the A1 highway toward Djibouti and which the TPLF has been trying to press toward for weeks, is now blocked. The TPLF has also encountered stiff resistance by the ENDF and Afari forces east of Bati, to the south of Chifra, blocking its advance on Mile from the southwest.
Unconfirmed reports on Monday suggested the ENDF had also recaptured Bati, which is in eastern Amhara state, but there had been no official declaration of the victory by the government when this story went to publication.
