RE: SOME PERSPECTIVE17 Mar 2020 08:52
These are the types of numbers used in the US to justify the right to bear arms.
How about focussing on the causes of deaths on the roads? How many are defined as accidental and how many were avoidable?
When it comes to cancers there are some that just happen to people, no apparent underlying cause. With others there is a definite causal link and they could have been avoided.
Patients suffering from some types of cancers, plus anyone on chemo; are already at increased risk from any infection, never mind this virus. Some clinical trials have already been cancelled, the associated risks have been deemed too high.
The moves introduced yesterday are about increasing the probability of the right care being available to as many people as possible I.e. avoiding deaths.
The system was not ready for this, so they have to buy time. A simple example is the machines designed to aid breathing, the staff trained to use them and oxygen supplies.
At the end of it you will know how many people have died from it, and the financial consequences, but you’ll not know how many deaths were avoided by these strategies.
