Not sure about the shipping relationship to recession levels.
I know that there are massive shortages of goods to sell, which may be because of lack of production in the Far East, I think if and when world production and transport increases, British retail and hopeful the economy in general will increase. Well that my take on it, but it’s built on hope as much as anything. I’m holding all my holdings for the time being. Gl

That’s a quid a share to start with, if it materialises.
I know sales don’t always equate into profit but it’s a good indicator and the 3 of the 4 shops in my city are all either full or very busy in the 10-3 time slot, so I’m optimistic footfall here is almost if not bigger than before the covid. Fingers crossed

The challenges of increased costs, including including fuel , raw ingredient and wages are being experienced by all high street food outlets so if the changes at the top of Greggs management perform like their predecessors then the company should do as well ( or badly ) as others but on past performance have done better than most.
I agree this has the potential to achieve £40 , which was where it was heading until a month ago, in the next couple of years.
Ingenuity has been a major key to the success of Greggs and there is no reason to think will change.
Greggs has a sound business plan, loyal customers and a diverse range of outlets. I think it’s external challenges that are the main resistors to the company’s future performance.

Im really appreciating the research and opinions, positive and those not so optimistic by learned posters here but I’m sure there will be a lot of shareholders ( many on this board ) who be selling if there is a spike, before the ex date, to realise any profit, or indeed minimise their losses, like me, and they will do this whatever they may claim now. Once the India refund arrives I fear a big exodus, I hope I’m wrong though.

Do the more knowledgeable and more optimistic posters on our guess list think the difference in the price now and the price on actual receipt of India government pay back is “just “ the perceived risk in India not paying up ? I’m never usually overly counting my chickens before they have actually hatched. If it is a done deal. which I hope it is, and we have been told the low figure shareholders would receive as dividend , how come there would be a substantial spike, very substantial as some here suggest ? is this just the risk and if it is, do those that think the difference between now and then price is so big because they perceive the risk or non payment or another round of lawyers bigger than others.

They can, and are trading as different companies.
One would expect some sort of correlation, but the 2 trade in slightly different fields, sgc more locally fixed and nex longer trips so there individual value would rise and fall independently. I have stated recently that I wondered whether they are totally mirroring but until the deal is done ?????
There is no total guarantee the deal WILL go ahead I suppose ( look at cineworldcrecently) but there is no reason to think it won’t.
Nex currently 250.6, so x by 0.36 we get 90 so it’s currently spot on.

I agree, I’m in again, after trading 2 or 3 times and wishing I’d held.
This may well drop a bit more in the short term but once we’ve all had omicron and towns , cities, trading estates , service stations and drive ins are fully open this will be £ 40

Nex dropped more than 3% today so sgc now mirroring the agreed merger price.

One of the directors has more than 12 mill shares, nearly 30% of total so they certainly have confidence , although 2.5% divi ok .

If sgc can plug the staff shortage levels ( which it seems to be doing in my area ) they are well placed to lure and hopefully retain customers where train operators are losing theirs.
I fully expected 92p today and will sell half at 95 and keep remainder till nex merger happens. ( mainly because I bought a bit enthusiastically in the dip and although happy at the minute am a bit too heavy here) gl all in new year

I hope you’re right. I know you posted in the past that the BOD should not accept the low negotiated offer and hang out for full payment, and to be honest I’m not sure while they didn’t !
I guess we’ll know ( hopefully ) in a couple of months, but I wouldn’t totally dismiss lower guesses of myself and some others and that’s what they are just guesses. I’m not sure how you can explain the mulling around in the 180s if you expect another 40, 50, 60 and some even higher figures nailed on in the immediate future.
Like I’ve said, I hope you’re correct in your guess.

I’m a pessimist by nature, and usually not disappointed, but my uneducated calculation is price BEFORE news of refund approx £1.30 plus the 75p Indian rebate ( the jump to £2 ) retrace to £1.80 on doubt / risk element , I unfortunately think £2 area will be the limit but hope the optimists here’s approx of £2.25/ £2.50 would be most pleasing.
Hope I’m wrong and others are right but I just have a feeling that’s things will not be as straight forward as most think. I certainly won’t be booking a holiday on the hope of payback in January.

I intend to keep, but I’m really flummoxed why the sgc share isn’t now mirroring the nex share I’m obviously missing something.
Unless the merger is a fine deal in theory only until later .

I do not think refund will be here soon.
The short statement implies that the rebate would be paid after the Cory cases are withdrawn. I can’t see where it says a timescale, like immediately Or completed within 14 days or anything of the like. But I’m not the brightest spark and have probably missed something
