Seaangler, yes there's a mindset change for sure, you think twice about racing to the next set of traffic lights not only because it's pointles but it also burns more range, makes you a better driver.... I thought I would miss changing gear having never had an automatic but you soon realise it's so much better and efficient you don't miss it, some of the hills where I am regen at 65kw back into the battery I hardly ever use the brakes its just regen to stop, one pedal driving....
When I get back in my old fossil car that I kept for just incase it feels like going backin time with Fred Dibnah and going onto a BP forecourt is really strange now .... Sounds like you're spending at least £60 a week on diesel/petrol you need to sort that out asap and start saving money :o)....stick it on charge when you get to work, and again when you get home. Any distance...Planning is the key.

Seaangler why doesn't it stack up ? I think the average street would easily handle ev charging at each address....at 3kw it's really nothing, it's already the case in Norway.... with bi-directional charging it could be part of the solution too .

Seaangler & Bellers, I've been driving two EVs for the last three years, 90% of the time they are charged at home with their factory supplied 3kw 10amp 240v charger, domestic supplies are fitted with 100amp fuses 80% of that avail without problem, even with both cars connected and charging there's never been a problem, a small EV with 80-100 mile range will be used for local shopping, school runs, etc etc so only ever gets charged once or twice a week anyway (6 hours plugged in)..... I don't even have to think about it. Obviously there will be places where network upgrade is needed but it seems to me there's a fair bit of extra capacity already there so ev take up wont be a problem in the short term. grid wont fry :o)

Gs wasn't expecting the uptick today, just been sitting on the side trying to work it out, only holding dish & afc who are going well with a possible break out to come, I hope you didn't stay long rdsb as they hit a 4 year low yesterday ouch, anakin oil panda may have spun a yarn but I believe it's a Dodo once £21 orders are met. bilboburgler, 'baseload' is an old coal industry term. Tech is moving on at a rapid pace, storage is the answer, switching times are much faster this is how demand will be met, The UK is surrounded by energy it's a question of tapping into into it, instead of wasting years and billions of pounds building nuclear that is a filthy time bomb.
