Bananaman thanks, good to chat with you. I've just checked my cost for my trip £6.20 split between the Swarco and a Polar 25p kWh on the way back ~ both about 10 min stops... could afc compete on price ? thats something Id like to know, also how the H2 is delivered.
Re 16p revisit ~ been looking at three different sourced charts and now think its a less deep retrace maybe only 19p either way as long as 16p is'nt broken should give stronger sustained upside going forward imv...

Banana, this study has looked at some shaping solutions in some areas, not sure if they looked at Bidirectional which againg takes load off the lv side......

Banana, give your local dno a call and ask how they're planning to cater for all the extra demand and see what they say ? I'll step back from my view on EV chargers now, I think they could sell a few in 5 years time but the big money will be elsewhere for afc. hope I'm wrong and if some big EV order comes in I'll buy a drink for anyone who signs up by 8pm tonight.

Banana, rapid wont be possible at home unless you are lucky enough to have 3 phases...its not required at home, if you need to rapid charge the chargers are popping up all the time I used a brand new one today on a 200mile round trip, made by Swarco (Spainish ) 35p Kwh.

Hi Musc, there's nothing to stop you or I going out and buying a Bosch 32Amp electric double oven, having it fitted and using it when and how we like...that could be around meal times when others in our street are doing the same but that never causes a problem because its been planned for with worst case weighted knn algos, for older streets its even better because those cables would support the inefficient devices of the day three bar fires, storage heaters etc.
You dont need 32A charger at home, in most cases 13A socket is enough to charge overnite for say a 24Kwh EV and maybe twice a week.
My concern is the slow take-up of ev.

Col Bilbo, if you're talking about supply to the charger, then conductors are aluminium not copper, three phase 11kv then 415v ~ again huge conductor sizes aren't necessary.

Col...dont know if you are refering to copper on the charger or the network ?....... 500kw for the car isnt necessary imo, 150kw does the job long distance, 50kw if you're taking breaks which you should...... For short journeys around town small BEVs are perfect, simple to manufacture and will be cheap when they stop jacking up prices .....if you're talking HGV, Busses etc then obviously this is where H2 wins out.
Copper dimensions @ 150kw 800v ~ eg porsche taycan) charging tether would only be 6.55mm dia conductor...liquid-cooled cables can be used to reduce temp for higher current.
