Kromek ramping up Covid-19 pathogen detectors.

Placing and open offer to raise £13m.
Proceeds to de-risk and commercialise bio-security pathogen detectors.

Kromek (KMK:16.75p), a Sedgefield-based radiation detection technology company focused on the medical, security screening and nuclear markets, has announced a placing and open offer to raise £13m at 15p a share.

Up to 25 per cent of the proceeds will be used to de-risk and commercialise Kromek’s bio-security pathogen detectors which sample air and identify the presence of any biological pathogen including Covid-19. They will be piloted in UK airports, hospitals and the retail sector in the coming months ahead of commercial roll-out. In addition, up to 20 per cent of the funds will be used to expand sales and marketing efforts for Kromek’s nuclear detection and medical imaging activities with the balance used to deleverage its balance sheet.

I feel the open offer is worth taking up. That’s because two-thirds of Cenkos Securities’ £15m revenue estimate for the 2021/22 financial year is already covered by the order book, but the house broker’s forecast excludes any contribution from the bio-security pathogen detectors. Bearing this in mind, Cenkos estimates that every £1m of additional revenue could generate £0.5m of incremental cash profit for the company. Analyst Paul Hill at Equity Development values the annual global market for the biological threat detection devices at £500m and believes that the company could win a 20 per cent share, an outcome that is simply not being priced into Kromek’s market capitalisation of £57m.

The shares doubled in price to 28p after my last article ('Covid-19 airborne threat detection profit opportunity', 14 January 2021), and the pull-back on news of the placing is a repeat buying opportunity.

oki doki, a bit calmer now,... so we have some iii's investing £10 million quid, that's £10 million quid into KMK and no doubt existing investors likely to be over subscribed for a further £3 million..I think most can see the opportunity :-)

Hi Mr G, a huge number of majors and 250,350 comapnies have raised, and the sp does not touch the place price as here, it will be seen as sensible and value adding....only existing sh's will be able to get a limited number of discounted shares., hence it will add value and the should return and surpass previous levels :-)

nope, forward selling 10m would be problematic, (and against the rules) and imo iii look for far greater returns in these circs, the sp should climb back closer to where we were as the initial panic and understanding of the raise sinks in...for those who do not hold KMK this is the chance to get in and then get some, if you can, at a discount shortly as a qualifying share holder, ..

Hi Dgroves, yup these are indeed worth far more than the 15p price as you state , and only qualifying sh's will be able to apply, so anyone not holding will not be able to get em cheap, once the initial panic from some is over the sp will climb again, note how the mm's are happy to take any sells, no restrictions, no nt etc ...I will be holding every share, they are worth closer to 30p+ on current knowns and maybe more as orders arrive etc

Skid, it's the way the markets work and there is an open offer for pi's, better than some of the majors who locked all pi's out, it'll be over subscribed imo and will add to the value here over coming weeks and months, short term it's a step back from cashing profits next week, however, I believe it will strengthen KMK, ensuring they can make the best of the opportunities ahead, it's a sensible move in the circs and one that we should all benefit from soon

equally £10 million quid already on the table from iii's suggest they have confidence and they see decent return on their investment going forward :-)

Well, just came in from clearing the snow to discover a fund raise, surprised at the discount, however, the key to any placing is the reason fo it, this is clearly not just a lights on raise it is for product development and to commercialise bio-security/pathogen detectors and increase the rate of commercialisation, to expand sales and marketing for the Group's nuclear detection and medical imaging activities and to strengthen the balance sheet and provide the Group with flexibility to address and capitalise on the current and emerging opportunities

The list of companies that have raised funds in the last six months covers many majors and those in both the ftsee 350, 250 etc and is typically seen as a decent move in the circumstances, over the next few weeks it should add value to the sustanability and strength of the company ..as investors we either see value ahead or not...£10mill in pace already from iii and I'm pretty confident the last £3 mill will be oversubscribed, the sp may have dropped temporarily but the potential and prospects remain the same or better :-)

a 'recovery' stock recovering through lockdowns and set for both further recovery and growth as economy opens up.

yup, I think the key words are ' transformational period'

...been a while coming but here we are as stated by Vanilla we have a real gloabl IP, really are producing our own products, new markets, and finally smart phones and Tier 1 auto in sight, we knew the potential was there, now CPX actually have the means to deliver :-)
