Tangiers Petroleum (LON:TPET/ASX:TPT) – New Management, New Region
It seems as if whenever a company changes management these days it completely changes its business, and the departure of the disastrous Eve Howell has precipitated such a change – going from a company that is focused on offshore Africa, playing the Atlantic margin play in Morocco, to exploring in Alaska, and onshore US play, is quite a change.
To our mind this could almost be a change of business, and therefore require the input of the Company’s owners. We don’t doubt the prospectivity of Alaska, in fact, we believe it’s basins are the last of the last of the forgotten US onshore plays. To that extent, we believe that this is a move that will start to see the Company returns some of the destruction in value that has been experienced since the departure of Mark Cheglinski.
There is no doubt that there will be a further fundraising to come, it will be a question of how much, and how often, especially as production is now further away than at any other time in its recent history. That said we believe that there will be some measure of a relief rally that the management team brought in has a direction to take the Company in, and one, which on the face of it at least, looks as if it will make a difference.
