Let me keep this plain and simple and clear up any confusion !
Comparing the NAV per share to the share price is a quick way to see what the market thinks of any particular company.
If the share price is HIGHER than the NAV per share, then it is said to trade at a PREMIUM, this indicates the market likes the company and there is demand for the shares.
If the share price is LOWER than the NAV per share, then it is said to trade at a DISCOUNT, suggests a lack of demand for the shares and the company is out of favour with the market.
