Iran has warned the United States and Israel that it will carry out more “crushing” attacks following an address by Donald Trump overnight.
Tehran will continue fighting until the countries surrender, a military spokesman said on Thursday morning.
The statement from Iran’s military said: “With trust in Almighty God, this war will continue until your humiliation, disgrace, permanent and certain regret, and surrender. Await our more crushing, broader, and more destructive actions.”
Meanwhile, the US urged its citizens to leave Iraq, warning that Iran-backed militias intend to attack central Baghdad “within the next 24 to 48 hours”.
“These actors may target US citizens, companies, universities, diplomatic facilities, energy infrastructure, hotels, airports, and other sites believed to be associated with the United States,” the US embassy in Iraq said.
On Tuesday Shelly Kittleson, an American freelance journalist, was kidnapped in Baghdad. US officials believe an Iranian-backed militia is behind the abduction.
In his address on Wednesday night, Mr Trump again threatened to attack Tehran’s oil and energy infrastructure unless it made a deal to end the war, saying the US would bomb the country into the “Stone Ages” in the coming weeks.
“If there is no deal, we are going to hit each and every one of their electric generating plants very hard, and probably simultaneously,” the US president added.
