If your in the green Hydrogen business you need clean water to keep costs down. Desalination plants are required for Africa to progress and are being pushed. The plants require power, gas and or electric. Closes the circle. Might be part of a larger agreement?
Thanks for the response Jimmy. We agree on the volatile future of LNG supply I think. China moving on from covid and pushing their economy again will demand more gas for sure, splits in the EU over the gas cap and accusations of corruption in the EU from Qatar and Morocco, all adds to an already difficult market. If the GSA is dependent on a stable gas price, it will be a long time coming. Is it likely that a price range could be agreed based on market values?
Nice report Jimmy. This is a game changer for green hydrogen vs blue hydrogen. CAPEX and OPEX been difficult to argue using PME electrolyser tech. Blue Hydrogen is a more efficient energy transfer so far, though gas prices make the OPEX less favourable. The means to use "spare" green solar and wind power to produce hydrogen to store energy is a huge advantage. The energy transfer gain of the CFE cell will be extremely competitive. Still have to see about it's production costs, lifespan (presumably higher due to lower loss of energy to heat) and how quick the market picks this up.
IMO DYOR
Nice to know your research is firm, did worry what was coming tbh. Think the $8 is very conservative Jimmy, likely it has risen considering the increase to 60% over 10 years. Almost certain the uncertainty with the war and opec is and has been, the sticking point for GSA. IMO.
Rabat - The first edition of the Parliamentary Economic Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf region (CGEM) is being held from December 7-8 in Marrakech. The forum aims to turn challenges into opportunities that face the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf region.
The Mediterranean has been heavily affected by climate change.
As part of its bid to achieve 52% of its energy needs domestically, Morocco has considerably invested in renewable energies and green energy like hydrogen over the past five years. But the country still needs assistance from its international development partners to meet its ambitious clean energy goals.
Head of Morocco's General of Enterprises Youssef Alaoui, highlighted that this year's forum seeks to promote the need for stronger cooperation between countries in the Gulf and Euro-Mediterranean regions.
Speaking at the forum, Alaoui said that the Euro-Med and Gulf regions have a lot of economic potential, but they face similar problems with climate change, food security, water stress, and being too dependent on natural resources.
The CGEM official also stressed the importance of social dialogue between the government and the private sector to develop the local ecosystem like the"industrial hubs" and build local capacity.
In addition, he highlighted Morocco’s efforts over the years to ease business and develop local infrastructure, such as its new development plan to achieve sustainable and inclusive economic development.
The meeting prioritises the strategic partnership between the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions as an important cooperation.
Alaoui also spoke of the importance of the EU-Morocco relationship and Morocco's geographical proximity to Europe, which makes the country a solid commercial partner of the EU south of the Mediterranean.
He concluded by noting that the CGEM represents the interests of Morocco’s private sector in EU institutions, especially in Brussels, to make Morocco a favoured destination for investors.
JERUSALEM, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Israel's NewMed Energy (NWMDp.TA) said on Tuesday it signed a deal with Morocco's energy and mining ministry and Adarco Energy for offshore natural gas exploration and production in Morocco.
NewMed and Adarco will each have a 37.5% stake in the Boujdour Atlantique licence, NewMed said. The ministry will hold the remaining 25%.
Looking at driving factors for Morocco to expedite their gas.
Drought is a major problem, currently desalination plants are being promoted at circa £10 billion. All need power.
Massive demand for fertilizer Morocco made over £10 billion this year a rise of 56% due to ukraine war. More can be produced again if power is available.
Huge interest from Israel investment in Morocco's gas.
Having to import at high cost gas from Spain and LNG.
The need seems clear for gas asap with transition to solar, wind and hydrogen later in some areas.
The electrolyser tech is still being developed and will need to be produced in quantity due to its limited life span ,(at present).
The Kwh requirement to produce hydrogen is going down all the time, but when do we know what is commercially viable? The game changer for me is when green electric surplus is used to convert kwh to hydrogen to provide a storage of power. The use of that power to feed industry, fertilizer products is great but when turbines are being payed to stop turning
because of lack of means to store the energy , it just doesn't make sense. Make hay while the sun shines and the wind blows.
