Look at the comment below Mikhail’s post - then look at the commenter’s linked profile… spent 8 years at Eskom, now consulting on Eskom’s battery energy storage testbed. So pretty much straight from the horse’s mouth.
Interesting, so looks like Hysosung is the selected supplier which has already signed on to the project. That leaves two more suppliers, which Eskom should reveal by the end of the month according to this article https://mybroadband.co.za/news/energy/444102-eskom-close-to-sealing-deals-for-massive-battery-storage-system.html/amp
Fingers crossed BE are involved in some way even if it’s only a minor role.

It’s not the world bank funded tender but it is a tender that Bushveld have already indicated that they are interested in bidding for:

Interesting, so perhaps it is a different project, but I'm not so sure. I think it is this project that the financing is for: https://www.afdb.org/en/documents/document/south-africa-eskom-distributed-battery-storage-program-esmf-summary-104233
The project aims to install BESS in 47 sites across the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, Western Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal. I believe that the 7 sites that the 3 Eskom BESS packages relate to are the first 7 of these 47 sites. So the mention of Northern Cape in the article may have just been a mistake by the author, who didn't realise that none of the first 7 sites are in Northern Cape.
As an aside, I came across an interesting sentence just now when looking at the Skaapvlei BESS Environmental and Social Impact Assessment report https://www.afdb.org/sites/default/files/eskom_skaapvlei_bess_-_esia_report_final.pdf
In the last paragraph of the Executive Summary, it says "Because a fire / explosion can have greater impacts (medium) than an electrolyte spill (very low), and because the risk of a fire / explosion is greater for Technology Alternative 1, Technology Alternative 2 is preferred". So it appears that the report has recommended flow batteries over solid state batteries for Skaapvlei. Not sure if anyone else has picked up on this yet, but it seems very encouraging to me!
The article states that the funding will support battery development on seven sites... the same number as planned under the long awaited Eskom BESS packages (Skaapvlei, Melkhout, Pongola, Elandskop, Hex, Graafwater, Paleisheuwel). Now that this financing has been secured, we should hopefully hear news soon on the award of the tenders!
Could it be this project on the BE website? https://www.bushveldenergy.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/20190911-Battery-Energy-Storage-Systems-Webinar-v2-2.pdf
Beinthelead, not sure I agree that Medusa is needed. This is a new market for lateral flow tests in the UK, so not sure it is relevant that Avacta struggled before (and we don’t know how sales have been). There is a shortage of supply of LFTs and a sudden increase in demand from travel test providers. I don’t think HUA is necessary as the test providers will supervise (online or in person) their customers as they take the tests. Surely Avacta will be able to sell into this market directly by doing deals with the test providers, just as AS alluded to in the business update when he stated testing service providers are a key customer for sales of the professional use test.
I might be wrong, but my understanding of the agreement with Medusa 19 is that they have exclusive rights to directly distribute the the test to consumers, but non-exclusive rights for distribution for businesses. This means that Avacta can sell directly to testing providers, who will be providing a testing service to consumers rather than simply selling the tests to consumers (which they would be unable to do as M19 have exclusive rights to do this). So I don’t see why Avacta need M19 to be able to tap into the international travel testing market.
Looking at the previous quarters, in two out of three quarters, the trading update was published in the last week of the first month of the next quarter (26th Jan and 27th April respectively). The latest update was published a couple of weeks later than usual but that could perhaps be treated as an outlier as it was for the full year. So, the pattern suggests that we should get a trading update next week, which could be very interesting.
