That article is actually untrue. Short positions during the last week or so have been reducing. Five out of the last eight trading sessions have been positive so it looks to me like the tide is turning. The Daily Mail have long since held a negative view of IAG.

Thats very optimistic. Anyways I have loaded today @105 in ISA and @104 ish at CFD. Should be a good day tomorrow. Wonder how high it will go in the next few days/weeks. A 75 bps might be out of the table if inflation comes down in the future forecast but june inflation without doubt is high, will have to wait till July 13 to know the exact rate, the same date when biden goes to saudi.

For me the burning question is what price these so called investment funds who currently hold open short positions in IAG are aiming to achieve before they begin covering their positions. Could it be one hundred pence ?

It’s worth mentioning that the FTSE 100 enjoyed a strong finish on Friday evening and is currently sixty two points higher than at the 16.30 close on Friday afternoon.

Thanks Bobbins, still one of the most grammatically and factually correct posters on this board and thoroughly deserving of POTY, as well as extremely humorous. I’ve never liked hedge funds, particularly when they line up to annihilate companies that I am invested in. It smacks of a group of bullies together in the playground humiliating a perfectly decent honest individual.

I was really hoping that the end of the first half year would prompt a covering of short positions but this has not proved to be the case. There were no reductions in short positions and Sandbar increased theirs by 0.7 per cent on the 30th June to 1.03 per cent. Is there no end to this persecution of IAG ?

June has seen nothing but increased short positions from a plethora of fund management companies, exceeding five per cent at one point but the glimmer of hope is that Citadel Advisors Europe were the first management company to reduce their short position in the month of June on Thursday from 0.51 per cent to 0.40 per cent. Information from Friday 24th June is not currently available. At least it is a start back in the right direction.

I really can’t see any sustained improvement in the share price until these wretched fund management companies release their grip by closing their short positions. When one begins to close, the rest will follow.

AC777, I assume you gleaned the reversal signal from the charts. I guess today proves conclusively that the charts are not always correct in their forecasting. How would any share price software know how the market would react following the interest rate increases in America and the UK. I know many of you bought more shares today but I really think this is throwing good money after bad. There is no sign of a let up in market diminution and certainly no hint of a reversal. The only poster who I fear could well prove to be correct in forecasting is Derren Brown, I hope I’m wrong.

Well, good while it lasted but we appear to be continuing the nine down one up cycle. For a moment there I thought we might enjoy an unprecedented TWO day gain, but no !

Thank you AC777 but I’m not sharing your optimism for a change in sentiment at the moment. I’ve just received an email to say that my flight has been cancelled for next Monday ! I can’t find a single signal on any charting websites to suggest that this downtrend is about to change. This situation reminds me of the weeks leading up to the moment in October 20 when Rolls Royce announced a rights issue. The price fell relentlessly for weeks until the company confirmed its intention to raise funds from shareholders.

IAG closed down 4.55 percent on Monday, June 13, 2022, on 88 percent of normal volume. Due to the stock's strong downtrend, it may remain oversold for a while. So, if you're looking for a reason to buy, don't put too much weight on it being oversold.

I am inclined to agree with LloydsActuary. The news about covid entry testing into America came out during the afternoon on Friday after the American markets had opened and before London closed yet all the airline share prices continued to fall. On Tuesday and Thursday of last week Point72 Europe (London) LLP opened two short positions in IAG totalling 1.14 per cent. Why would they do this knowing full well that entry restrictions into America were about to be lifted ? This is now less about company performance and more about general sentiment which has turned bearish since Russia invaded Ukraine. Last week the FTSE fell 2.86 per cent while IAG fell by 4.30 per cent. Let’s hope for a relief rally on Monday.
