No secret that I'm a big fan of housebuilders at their current levels (esp. Bellway) but I'm also realistic enough to know that there are major headwinds, these will recede and share prices will rise, by a fair amount in some cases, but agree there also needs to be a dose of realism here.

My working career, prior to my well deserved early retirement 😊 was spent at a large US Investment Bank.

My experiences whilst working there for 23 years have made me very cynical and with good reason.

Many would like to believe they operate with integrity and would never engage in underhand practices, if you saw the amount of fines we racked up, both in and out of court, in order to protect those responsible for their dubious behaviour....right up to the very top....you'd be amazed.

These 'analysts' don't operate for the benefit of the wider public, it is all about making money for the company and themselves, whichever way they can. A few choice words relating to another company to move their SP.....it doesn't get any easier than that to make a nice fat profit!!

In my view, it was little more than a clumsy 'hatchet job' along the lines of Viceroy Research's similar attempt to crash the SP.

They have simple cherry picked aspects of the FCA debacle that will suit their case, ignoring those parts that will simply blow it out of the water, added some vague, unsubstantiated drivel related to the next few years trading and then waited for an opportune moment to release this....after Friday's 9% rise being perfect...for maximum impact and greatest opportunity to make money, probably via one of their proxies.

A quick check on RBC shows that they are not immune to engaging in a little bit of market manipulation.

Nevertheless, very annoying how we are still seeing these levels of SP manipulation from various players, knowing that is is nigh on impossible to prove.
